Back when I first joined the forum almost everyone was using some sort of monkey avatar...they had come about doing that after some rather heated discussion about bananas curing sleep apnea or along those lines. I don't know that I ever saw the very first discussion that started the mass change to monkeys or I have forgotten it if I saw it.
Was quite funny to see all the monkeys of various shapes and sizes. Mine was a picture of a howling monkey....in a big scream.
Someone new to the forum would come here and ask how come almost everyone was a monkey.....I think they must have thought they had stumbled upon a zoo forum instead of a cpap forum.
I don't think I ever qualified for monkeydom, as -SWS explained it:

It's probably time to give the whole thing back to Mr. Gore anyway.

The internet doesn’t weigh anything! And is only about the size of a breadbox.

Well, since we're doing 'my first computer'...
Not a great pic,.. the keyboard was built into the tabletop... and that white box under the table on the right wasn't the computer... it was a minicomputer that was used to diagnose the main computer... which was that wall in the background.
Here's a pic of another one:

My first operations job was on one of these things:
Just the cabinet on the right though, the one I ran had a stand alone tape drive.
I like the HP3000 III machine, cuz I could get a pretty good idea how much longer the jobs were going to run based on the way the address lights were flashing on the front

"do I have time for a break before I have to do something else? *glances at blinkin lights* yup..."
