Cheyne-Stokes statistics

Post by RogerAN » Wed Mar 06, 2019 7:41 am

Since December 30 I have had 5 separate Cheyne-Stokes events lasting from 16 minutes to 30 minutes each. I have tried to communicate my concerns about this to my pulmonologist and his nurse, but they totally discounted my concerns and didn't even seem to know how I could determine that these occurred. I checked with my CPAP supplier and my SleepyHead statistics precisely matched theirs. Have any of you experienced these events and, if so, how did you handle this?

You need to evaluate the reported CSR times up close

Watch the videos...all of them with special attention to the last one.
Are you seeing flagged events happening during the time of the flagged CSR breathing?
If you zoom in on the breathing does it look like this

or does it look more like this?

These machines are flagging Periodic Breathing which by definition is just a waxing and waning of the air flow that lasts at least 2 minutes.
CSR is just one of many forms of Periodic Breathing and an especially scary form because it can mean some potentially significant medical problems going on but it doesn't always mean bad problems....and even if real CSR if not seeing a huge prolonged amount of it we don't get too alarmed.

This is scary and enough of it to warrant concern

This isn't enough to warrant concern and it's not real anyway...this person was awake when it was flagged

Thank you Pugsy. That helps very much! Since I posted my original message I did hear back from the nurse and she and the Dr. looked at my recent stats and even during the longer event, the central obstructions were at level well below the critical. At least they are now aware of my concerns and will work with me.

As always, I really appreciate your concerns and helpfulness!
