I Have an Itch

Post by jwoceanside » Wed Feb 20, 2019 9:34 am

Knowingly or not I occasionally insert my finger under my Nasal Mask, to relieve an itching situation, around my nose area.

Will this be considered an air leak

Will too much cause Mask damage

Washing my face and applying a face creme doesn't always seem to help.

Thanks

Yes, but likely to minimal to make any difference or even show up on your charts.

Will too much cause Mask damage
No.

Use an unscented baby wipe on your face before masking up.
Anybody can get an itch, but frequency drops off as you get used to the face-sucking alien.

Walmart or any knitting/craft store should have 6" long crochet ('croshay') needles that are very, very thin, almost like angelhair pasta, with only a very tiny hook at one end... keep it on a side table and use it instead of your 10 x fatter (sorry) finger.

I used to use a chop stick to scratch a face itch when I used a full face mask. Kept the chop stick on my night table, once the "itchies" went away I chucked the stick out  . I also chucked the FFM when I discovered I didn't need it... damn DME :D :D

Cheers

The itch is from the air blowing your nose hairs around, trim them.

And yes, it can show up as a leak, because it is.

Is it better than "I have a Dream"? I take it that you are also awake when you scratch it, therefore the data would mean little, So NO, unless you do it all night. Jim

Here's a trick. Scratch where the itch usually happens, vigorously, right before you put on your mask.

This works through attenuation. Ever walk into a room that stinks? Even if it smells bad, if you are there for a little while you don't really notice the smell anymore. Your brain has registered it and goes on to more important things. You can do the same by overwhelming the nerves that tingle when you itch by scratching them, and then donning the mask. Your brain won't register the itch as easily.

I wouldn't go to lotions as my first choice in dealing with an itch. If your skin itches because is dry, increase your fluid intake to hydrate your skin. There could be something in the lotion that's contributing to the itch.
