Anyone not use the humidifier?

Count me as one who doesn't care for the humidity. I've lived in the southwest my whole life both high desert and low and a humidity setting above 2 clogs me up and gives me a headache. I've never tried it completely without. Mostly because I don't know how to shut it off.

Turn humidity to 0 & use one of these to replace the tank.

Will it go to zero if I get that thing ? Right now the lowest it will go is 1.

I have the Climateline hose too. I just checked on my AutoSet and the setting below 1 is Off. Of course, you must set Climate Control to manual first.

It's fascinating to me how all our squigy meat bags are different. I'm in Florida and NEED the humidifier on. Maybe our A/C sucks all the humidity out of the house?

It is fascinating isn't it? This is one thing with a huge YMMV sticker on it. Everyone's bodies are different...with different needs to keep the nasal mucosa happy. I have always found it extra fascinating when there are 2 cpap users in the same household and each with markedly different preferences. Goes to show you that personal preferences plays a huge part since both parties are starting with the same ambient humidity no matter what it is.

It's not all that dry where I live and if I forget to top off the tank and it runs dry during the night I pretty much know it went dry without even looking at it the next morning by my sneezing that will start happening when I get up. Hubby recognizes it too. I will be sitting drinking my morning coffee and sneezing all over the place...his comment "forgot to fill up the tank again last night huh?"
He's real good to try to remind me to top it off the night before since he typically goes to bed before I do..."got your machine ready?" is my queue to go top it off. It is extremely rare for me to get 2 nights of water consumption out of 1 tank. Usually I can only get that when it is raining outside for days and nighst and the windows are open so that the ambient humidity is really high.

Furnaces, air conditioners and especially wood stoves will remove moisture from the household air. So you have that variable along with the personal needs variable and it makes for a huge variable.
These new machines take into account whatever the ambient humidity is and all they do is add enough to make what humidity is delivered match up with whatever humidity selection has been made. This is a huge improvement from the older machines that just cranked out moisture no matter what the machine was starting with. With most machines now if your ambient humidity is already high the machine simply won't add much more if the setting doesn't call for it. That's why water consumption can vary so much.

Ok it does go to off. i just checked. Cool. Thanks! Could have sworn the last time I looked it wouldn't go below 1 but I was new and still afraid to play with it at that point.

Maybe that's something we should try and emphasize to newbies... "there's pretty much nothing you can do to break the machine just while fiddling with the dials and buttons."

I use a humidifier all the time at home. However, on the boat in the summer, I never use a humidifier - I have no place to even put it and the ambient humidity is generally over 80%. Much of my short family travel is to humid climes (FL, DC etc) so I usually don't bring the humidifier when I fly to cut down on size. I usually take it on longer trips and end up regretting it.

Live in NYC and if I run the CPAP without the humidifier, I wake up with a sore throat and really dry nose.

I really can't use CPAP without the humidifier.

However, the earliest machines did not come with a humidifier. In fact, the first humidifiers were stand alone units (hose goes from CPAP to humidifier, another hose goes from humidifier to mask, and a separate cord and power source).

No, the side cover doesn't have anything to do with the settings, it just allows you to not use the tank.

According to the manual: "You can set the Humidity Level to Off or between 1 and 8, where 1 is the lowest humidity setting
and 8 is the highest humidity setting.
To adjust the Humidity Level:
1. In My Options, turn the dial to highlight Humidity Level and then press the dial.
2. Turn the dial to adjust the humidity level and press the dial to save the change."

I will try that tomorrow. I could have sworn last time I looked it wouldn't let me turn it below one. Could it be because I have a climate line hose attached ?

Yes you can turn it to Off, you just keep turning the dial the sam direction that makes the number go lower, and when you have gone all they way, it will give you the option to choose OFF. I just turned my humidifier off this morning, since I was going to use my AirCurve 10 ASV on the airplane without the humidifier.
