What A Terrible Night Last Night - CA Arousals - Yuk!

Post by JCWarrior » Tue Feb 12, 2019 1:10 pm

Man last night was a crappy night's sleep!

Been dealing with a period of heightened anxiety as well as trying to sleep with a to the knee CAM boot (broken ankle).

My AHI is normally <1 (like .1) and I typically would have 0-1 CA's. Now my graph looks like a DNA chart! No wonder I can't sleep!

There's one CA where I didn't breath for 25 seconds!

Here's some highlights.

Quit worrying about it until the ankle thing is done and over with.
You can't do anything about the centrals anyway.

I broke my wrist some years ago...my reports were crazy ugly until I got the pins out and the pain was gone.
Pain messes with sleep...causes arousals that may or may not cause you to get false positive irregular breathing flags.

You are worrying about something you have no control over anyway and it's causing you more stress which impacts sleep quality even more.

Your reports are going to be ugly until the ankle thing is done and over with and you cut back on the worrying.

Thanks Pugsy. I’m not really concerned with the report. I really use the report to confirm my perception of how I slept.

Ironically, I’m not really in pain. It’s uncomfortable with this boot but not really pain.

The real discomfort is the pressure point on my left hip after about an hour or 2.

I’m mainly a side sleeper. At least that’s the only way I’ve been able to initiate sleep. Then sometimes I’m all over the place (pre-boot).

Trying to start sleep on my back gives me anxiety. Probably from years of undiagnosed OSA.

If I take Clonazepam or Trazodone I sleep a bit (much?) better but I hate taking that stuff.

I hear you about medication taking.
When I take something to help me sleep I usually feel like crap the next day from the hangover effect.
I have to decide which is worse crap...the hangover effect or the not so great of sleep quality crap.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't kind of thing.

Yep. This stupid anxiety crap rears it’s ugly head with me about every 5 years or so it seems.

When it does, I get real nervous about laying down. It’s the strangest thing. Even just now, trying out some pillow configurations, I get anxious.

That’s why experiencing the CA’s is troubling. Ironically, it’s probably the anxiety that’s contributing to them.

I think your centrals are more likely a symptom of the poor sleep than the cause of poor sleep.

Makes perfect sense. Baffling how anxiety can do this stuff.

Like I told someone else, most people can hold their breath intentionally for 25, 30 seconds without significant struggle.

I've held mine for a minute (it does get tough towards the end there) without significant oxygen drop on my oximeter.
