How long do P10 pillows lasts for you?

Post by milehigh » Fri Jan 25, 2019 10:36 am

I'm curious. I'm a couple months into my usage of the ResMed P10 Nasal Pillow mask, and so far I've started suddenly getting massive leaks at one month usage on each set of pillows, apparently because the plastic softens up, and the pillows collapse down onto the dome part of the plastic, which has also softened up compared to a new pillow. I use a bit of lanolin on the pillows.

So how goes it for other P10 mask users? How long do they last for you? Any tricks to extending their life?

Thanks!

i don't know why your pillows are wearing out so fast. i've now gone over a year and a half, closing in on two years.

oh! and i use lanolin too so that's not the culprit.

i don't "over clean" them. they get a daily wipe with unscented baby wipes. i clean them in dawn dish washing liquid. i couldn't tell you really how often i do that last. maybe once every 3-4 months??

palerider here has gotten even longer life out of his p10 pillows, mainly because he started before i did.

so i don't know if you are cleaning them too much or if you just got a bad production run.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

A couple of years, easy.

You've probably inverted one, or both, of the inner cones. Watch this:

Are you sure it's the pillows that are wearing out and it's not the headstrap stretching out?

After a few weeks I find my headgear gets so stretched it can't keep the pillows tight enough for a good seal. When this starts to happen, I give them a good wash in hot water. After they've dried, they have shrunk back down and regained lost stretchiness.

Thanks, folks!

I have a fairly big head, and I haven't had much trouble with the head strap so far. When I've washed it I haven't noticed much difference. I try to set up the head gear such that I seal for leaks, but don't crush my nose and cheeks, so perhaps that compromise is contributing.

I'm amazed at the life you're getting out of the pillows. I checked and mine are not inverted. The plastic has definitely softened up, and it may be that the way my nose and lip are shaped that it compromises the seal when the pillows flatten down against the arch.

I'm also wondering if it's batch-related, since the plastic is definitely softening up. I'll try one from a different batch next time. Is there any such thing as "counterfeit" pillows out there? My DME has given me ones they've ostensibly repackaged from full masks.

I found the pillows for both the Swift FX and Dreamwear Nasal Pillow were barely making it a month. I think there are probably lots of reasons they vary in length of usage..from your own body chemistry to the amount of humidity you do or do not use to how much pressure you need. I am sure the variables are endless.

As much as I wanted the pillows to be a good option for me, I just never good get them to work consistently. I might have a good week or two and then things unravel. It is getting very expensive changing pillows so often.

I am trying the Airfit N20 starting tonight and hope I can finally get some sleep and feel rested. I have been at this for 7 moths and have lost count of the number of masks I have tried. I am a light sleeper, so it doesn’t take much for me to have a bad nights sleep.

I love the N20. I've been having great luck with it and after just over a month I am still using the same cushion. I did order a backup from amazon. Last two nights, I've had some leaking. If it keeps up I will try my back up cushion.

My DME provider sends me ample nasal pillow replacements, probably equivalent to two medium pillows a month. But replacement straps are never sent, so I buy them. They aren't cheap, about $20 apiece, but I replace the straps about every weeks. Usually replace the pillows at the same time.

The only reason your DME sends you pillows every two weeks is because medicare and other insurance companies won't pay for them any more often.... not that they're NEEDED.

My P10 pillows lasted a bout 8 months then seemed to start collapsing. I wash ,them in soapy water once a week and use a baby wipe daily.

I started with the P10 very early after its release, and pillows used to last several months. At some point, it seems like Resmed changed the material the pillows are made out of, and now I get about a month before leaks start to form and they need to be replaced. I can see a significant difference between old and new in the shape and size of the nasal openings in the medium pillows after a month of use.

that's interesting! i wonder if my comment about different batch lots is the thing. i bought mine ABOUT a year and a half ago and they seem to be keeping their shape.

wonder what will happen when i need to replace them??
