Advice needed

Post by wellshooter » Fri Jan 11, 2019 9:38 am

My wife has a Resmed S9 brick supplied by our very ignorant Medical Supply company, and for some reason I have not been able to figure out it sometimes turns the humidifier completely off. I cannot depend on it to come on when the machine is started and have to check it every time. We live in a part of the country where humidity has extreme variations in winter time. My wife also has COPD and is using supplemental oxygen piped into the CPAP hose. The extreme variations in humidity (measured by dew point variations of 50 degrees and sometimes more) are difficult to plan for. She has also had mask leaks with her Dreamwear which compounded cold nose and sinus problems. We are going to change the nose piece from medium to a small to see if that will help with the leaks.

She has 2 years left before medicare replacement kicks in.

With these problems in mind we discussed with our doctor and got a new prescription for a machine with auto humidity, heated hose, and O2 sensing (her O2 levels were low on the last visit). I have a Dreamstation, which I bought OOP because I don't have a medicare approved sleep study. It has really helped me with the same issues she is experiencing although I don't need O2 monitoring. The Dreamstation has no LMH setting in auto humidity sensing mode, but I understand the Resmed 10 does have such a three position setting. Her COPD means a delicate balance must be found and maintained so some adjustment is very desirable.

With that background I have two main questions and an operational question:
1) Is there a possibility that Medicare will accept this upgrade, or is that a waste of effort ?
2) Which brand-system would you guys recommend for her? I know nothing about O2 sensing monitoring. But I am sold on the auto humidity and heated hose features.
a.) Is the O2 monitoring data recorded on the machine memory card ?

If she has COPD, she would likely benefit from a resmed aircurve 10 vauto, whish has parameters that can be set to help people with COPD to breathe better.
