cleaning cloth cpap nasal mask
cleaning cloth cpap nasal mask
How does a person clean a material CPAP mask? no one has told me anything about my machine. Also that I need to know what is this about sending in a report? No one has ever told me about this. I'm so damn confused. I hope someone can help me here.

Re: cleaning cloth cpap nasal mask
Hello...Relax Agnes...maybe we can help if you give us some information. In the Control File where you registered, there is a place to list your machine and mask. Also it would help to know what your sleep study said and what pressure you were prescribed. Go to this posting and see if you can help us to help you.

Look in the manual, there should be cleaning instructions.

Re: cleaning cloth cpap nasal mask
I would wipe down my nasal mask every morning with a baby wipe. I use Pampers Thick wipes for sensitive skin ($1.87 for 60 wipes at Walmart). You can use a generic brand. The sensitive skin wipes are alcohol free and have very little aloe in them. The alcohol will deteriorate the mask silicone and the aloe will leave a film. About once or twice a month I will take my cushion and wash it with soap and water. I use a clear and unscented dishwashing liquid. The scented stuff leaves a scent that upsets my Buford tummy! After washing, I soak the cushion in warm water and rinse. I still get a little scent smell (from the unscented soap), so I wipe the mask with a baby wipe to remove the scent (from the unscented soap) and to remove any soap film.

Cloth masks need to be washed daily for best results.
Circadiance is most specific about what to use--or not.
I used clear, colorless Dawn on my Sleepweaver Elan.
I had used unscented Method dish soap until it was gone.
That stuff might not be made any more . . . Sad, it was good.

i didn't look TOO deeply, but you may be right about the dish soap not being around any longer.

The hand soap may work, if it has no conditioners.zonker wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 11:17 am. . .

Dish soap usually does not--with some exceptions.
Conditioners leave oils in the fabric. Not good.
I have used Dawn pure essentials.

This is actually not correct. Alcohol doesn't have any adverse affects on silicone, at worst, one type of alcohol can discolor the silicone, but none of the types of alcohol will cause silicone to deteriorate.

mmmm…. I would prefer having the alcohol to help in killing slobber germs!

When I was using the mirage quattro, I'd wipe the cushion down, every night, with a squirt of regular (unscented) purell, on a kleenex... not for the germs, but because it cleaned the facial oils off the silicone really easily... (I'd usually wash the mask every week, unless I'd sneezed in it..Sheriff Buford wrote: ↑Sun Dec 16, 2018 8:51 ammmmm…. I would prefer having the alcohol to help in killing slobber germs!![]()

I used the same cushion for about 5 years, ... I had a spare, but the first one just kept on working fine, so I never opened up the package with the spare...
So, yeah, the alcohol didn't hurt the cushion at all.
