mmmmm .... asparagus! Yummy CF!

Hey Pugsy ~~~ Have you ever purchased anything from fish-ex?

https://www.fishex.com/crab/shop-all

here's recipe page I think you will like ...

https://www.fishex.com/seafood/recipes

They're kinda like Omaha Steaks in their marketing and delivery.

I used to keep a supply of little filet Mignons from Omaha Steaks in the freezer and occasionally bought other things from Omaha Steaks as well. It was very convenient to have on hand. Great individual packaging. They also have crab and a sea food section. Though not the quality of fish-ex.

I used to travel a lot and have been dividing my time between multiple locations for years, and as such, orders from Omaha steaks were convenient to have on hand if I arrived "home" really late and hadn't been at that location for a bit. It was better than just having canned soup or tuna.

Plus these guys will really really drop the price and negotiate if you call them. So they're really not as expensive as it would seem.

I love brussel sprouts and that sounds awesome! It does sound like a bit of work though. LOL

...and I might switch salmon for the bacon ... but OMG I want some now!!!
Having Brussels Sprouts does not make the dish healthy when they are covered in bacon grease.

No...I have never used any online meat/fish source.
And those prices are way out of my price range.
I like crab but not that much. I am just as happy with chicken.
The tilapia I bought the other day....first time I ever bought that sort of fish for me to cook....ever.
The last time I bought seafood was some 12 years ago in Vegas and that was Alaskan king crab legs.

Any other fish or seafood bought was when someone else prepared it in a good place to eat and I don't do the work.

I went back and looked at the original idea....no where was it mentioned that it was healthy.
I think the whole idea was just to taste good.

There was no requirement that any idea be healthy
Just taste good.

We are lucky to have two Aldi's in town, and two more within road trip distance.
They force lower prices than we have ever seen here--and great quality!

The crab cake experiment is slated for sometime this weekend.
Went to WalMart a little bit ago...no choice in crab except some sort of imitation crap or canned from Chicken of the Sea. Sigh.
Chance of a winter storm tonight....we are right on the edge and they still can't decide which way it is going to go.
For sure south of us into northern Arkansas but I am about 50 miles as the crow flies from the Arkansas line....so I am planning on things getting bad and if they don't I will be ahead of the game anyway.

Geez....that canned crab is expensive. I could have got a really big steak for what that little can of crab cost.
There was probably some other crab options because there was a big empty spot on the shelf....sold out whatever it was and only one small package of the imitation crap next to the empty spot.
Anyway....the plan is to use the dressing for breading and just see what it tastes like.
Never know with my cooking experiments....the possum might eat really well. I have had some failures that the dogs wouldn't even touch.

Your cooking can't be too bad. In the 1970s a co-worker mentioned a failed cooking attempt shortly after she got married.

She tried making fried rice, trying to fry it until it turned brown. Apparently, it turns black first. She then found out about soy sauce.

This falls under the *HINTS* section of this thread or if not maybe it's OT to the OT?

I wanted to share the eMails I've received from QUEST DIRECT.

So many people on cPap talk are here because they've taken control of their own treatment. In the first week or so of coming here I had been like a POW to the medical system and my true free thinking and rebellious personality had been tortured and beaten in to fear and submission. Just those first few posts I read on cPaptalk that had the human spirit of "eff it" ... "it's your body your therapy ... you can change your own damn settings" ... they went straight to my core and said "WAKE UP". WAKE UP, GRACE~~~!!!!

I can never express enough appreciation for that wake up call! It brought me back to myself and flowed over in to my dealings with this ridiculous insurance and medical nightmare that has become my full time job. That TRULY is what "cPap" has done *for me*.

So, in that spirit, I have just been getting recent eMails from Quest Diagnostic. This is not new as there have always been ways you could order your own lab reports, but I am encouraged that this is now becoming acceptable thinking as Quest Diagnostic is a pretty big company, - at least here in Florida.

It's called Quest Direct. (it's got a weird link so maybe I can't share it, but I'll try.)

It's more ways we can take control, think for ourselves (assuming we trust the results :P )
It's ridiculous how many "middle men" have to get paid and obstruct between US and our simple Health Results.

It's fine Grace...this is an OT thread for anything really.

It's long been a pet peeve of mine that only your doctor to order and give you the results of any test.
I always felt like it was a slap in the face that they didn't think I was smart enough to understand the results.
This stuff isn't rocket science....it's pretty easy to look at norms and see if our results are outside the norms or not.

The medical profession for the longest time was just plain lazy (they didn't want to take the time to educate us) or they went to the God complex thing and a big ego trip and wanted to keep us in the dark treat us like mushrooms.
Some people do need that sort of hand holding but more and more of us are deciding that we want to be part of all aspects of anything we do or get done to us.
Doctors don't walk on water despite what they might think or the faith some people put in their doctors (insert any medical professional here). The days of blind faith in medical professionals as to being perfect and knowing everything are fast fading.

We should always have a choice ....be it in being involved and active or the choice to sit back and let someone else direct things.
And we shouldn't be penalized for wanting to be active and involved...which is all too often what happens when we dare question anything or anyone.

You, of course, are the embodiment of this ideal, Pugsy.

I have a PPO which I pay for myself and I have real issues getting anything done in a sane manner even though I don't need to see "a primary" to ask for anything.

Some people have to make an appointment with a primary (paying for the doctor, his staff, his building and overhead, the person who coordinates with the "insurance person", who works somewhere else - with overhead) get the permission, go to a testing facility, (with their building and overhead) ...blah, bah, blah, blah, blah ... I could write paragraphs of the procedure ... and we ALL KNOW it's ludicrous!

All of this wasted time, effort, paperwork ...Just to find out if a test is "within the norms"!

What a colossal waste of time and money!

Money that could be used for giving REAL medical care when necessary.

There are too many middlemen ... too many people being indoctrinated in to unnecessary jobs burdened with student loans ... so that they are afraid to speak up because their job may become unnecessary. They become an unwitting participant and force shackling us all to this insanity.

Is NOW the time for medical entrepreneurs?

I think this is wonderful what Quest Direct is doing. (I think. It's just an eMail so far. :?: ) I'm sure some of my tests are not going to be available like the CA-125 but I am going to ask my oncologist if I can be in charge of ordering that in the future too. A copy can be sent to his file and you better believe I will be sitting at his door the minute he arrives if the number is outside the expected norm.

That is the least I can do to save my wonderful doctor and his staff a tiny bit of the busywork -so they have more brain power available for diagnosis and deciding on treatments.

I want to be part of Group A. The self care patients who want access to being able to pay for and order tests. And these scans and tests should be a fraction of the cost that they are ...

Get *me* out of the group so that Group B types who WANT someone to make all the decisions for them and like this system have shorter lines to wait in. Win / Win

Also, free open speech places like cPap talk where people can share and evaluate ideas on their own would really revolutionize health care, IMO.

Why wouldn't everyone in the world want the healthiest population possible?

There must be other ways to make money than in the "medical field".

You have no idea the HELL I've been going through the last two weeks with insurance and these weird ancillary people ... maybe they are DME's? ... I can't tell who's who and what's what ...

...it's been like a the worst low brow bad joke of incompetency.

and yet it's LIFE and DEATH????

How is this real?

Total knee replacements:
I was recently confronted by the orthopedic surgeon who had tried to push me into getting TKA in '02.
I have avoided the surgery in spite of being told I had "bone on bone".
I had asked my PCP for a referral to a different surgeon, and started asking questions . . .
My PCP determined I had/have patellafemoral syndrome (a tendon that slips sideways)
"Dr R" was rather miffed at seeing that I have full use and only occasional pain-16 years later.
