Excited back up machine arrives tomorrow

Post by babydinosnoreless » Sun Dec 02, 2018 10:10 pm

My DME set up my other machine. Is there anything I need to know or do special. The one I have is currently set:

vauto.
max ipap 24.
min epap 8.
Ps 4.
ti max 2 sec.
ti min .3 sec.
trigger med.
cycle med.

And what about the wireless stuff. Where will my info go?

Assuming that the old machine is not sitll in the compliance period, use the new one for several nights. That way, you'll be sure it's working as it should!

Any hours you put on the back up machine will not count towards your compliance. If the machine was registered at Resmed for MY Air usage, any hours you put on the new machine will be credited to the old owner. Resmed tracks usage by serial number and the DME ties the information filed under that serial number to the owner. Right now, the sleep lab shows first spare machine I purchased under my wife's name, as is her machine. She used my spare machine for four months as they made sure she would not need an ASV. This machine was never signed up under Resmed My Air system. It had zero hours on it when I purchased it from a private party. As far as I know, my second spare machine is registered at Resmed My Air under the name of the person I purchased it from. It had 106 hours on it when I purchased it. I have never registered it with my sleep doctor. I completed my compliance two years ago. I will use the spare when mine craps out and I am waiting for our insurance to approve a new one. As far ad our insurance is concerned, we only have two machines since they did not purchase the spare machines.

....reading this I am so glad that here in Australia we don't have to go through all this compliance nonsense.

You didn't mention what machine you bought but I think I would call the DME and speak to the "therapist" there and/or call your Sleep Dr. about it.

Its the exact same machine I already have. The settings will be the same, I just have never set one up before. I didn't know if there were any tips I need to know. My sleep doctor I have only seen once and he wrote the prescription off of my old sleep study. I don't have a DME therapist. The only person that has been helpful is the sales lady who sends out the supplies. She is also the only person who has ever called me back.

No special tips.
The used machine...unlikely anyone will be monitoring any data that might get transmitted. Set the machine to airplane mode so it won't transmit if you wish but no one will care what that machine transmits...if it transmits anything.

For meeting compliance usage requirements while in this period...use the DME provided machine for time when the usage will be the longest which is likely going to be sleep at night.
I know you want to at least try to sleep with the new used machine..if you do that...do one night only and then go back to the DME provided machine.
One night of non compliance (or you can add in some awake usage to build up the hours) isn't a deal breaker.
The requirement is
70% of the nights within an 30 day consecutive period that you use the machine at least 4 hours.
So 21 out of 30 nights...
Normally people have 90 days to meet that 30 day usage requirement.

I am still in the 90 days and except for the first 9 days when the settings were messed up. I have used it every night.

Pugsy has it right, you want to use your DME supplied machine to meet your compliance. When you go back in to the Sleep Dr. at the end of your compliance period you can speak to the Dr. about it then. I don't know how your DME is but mine requires compliance proof annually from a Sleep Dr. I am in a similar position except I have already met compliance and have purchased a second machine. I plan on using it only during the day for naps. I go back to sleep Dr. in March and plan on talking to her about the second machine then. Your DME may not require annual proof of compliance, apparently some don't and some here say Medicare doesn't require it, but mine does.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. My dme supplied machine I will sit and read or watch tv with it so I can get my compliance hours while I test out my new machine. Then I will go back to using the dme machine.

No problem, just wanted to be sure you understand you must meet compliance on the DME supplied machine, at least till you talk with Dr.

Oh yeah I will be very careful to meet compliance. I've already paid more for it with insurance and I am still paying. 🙄. Wish I had found this place sooner.
