Plastic tubing or silicone tubing?

Post by spiropulsator » Thu Oct 11, 2018 1:52 am

Hi everyone.
Instead of a rigid and unpleasant plastic CPAP tubing, I use a silicone tubing from the ventilator. Length 1.8 m, diameter 22 mm. Does it affect the functioning? My tubing is very soft and pleasant to touch. I do not like plastic. Add photo my tubing.

For comparison, a plastic tubing, much stiffer and cold to the touch.

Where would one be able to get a silicone ventilator hose?

My DME only sells the harder plastic tubing that normally comes with the CPAP machines.

Nice.
Maybe try medical suppliers--not DME's.

I believe it's a little larger than regular tubing, so your pressure at the mask will be a little higher, due to the lower flow resistance. (I think regular is 19 mm), with 22mm connectors. As long as it's comfortable, I see no issues.

Thanks for sharing that link! Are the fittings plug and play or is there a bit of finagling that has to be done? Judging my your pictures it doesn’t appear that you had to mod anything.

Nothing needs to be modified, it fits.
You will use once and all plastics will be thrown away.

Someone should send an email to madalot about this... after all her times fighting with recalcitrant hoses.

Though it is REALLY expensive.

Since many things come from China and there are recurring scandals of lead and toxins and bad stuff in things that are made there that it makes me wonder if there are any risks that an eBay hose would have contaminated silicone since it isn’t being regulated by a North American manufacturer?

I mean it is just a plain hose but I always wonder about things that come out of China through channels like eBay or aliexpress.

Thoughts?

Don't limit your wondering to China, Crooked Companies operate in every place on Earth, if more Bucks can be made by making unsafe products, they will be made, some in the U.S.A. Want some Hamburger, how about a DeFib Heart Wire.... Jim

Recalcitrant hoses hide under pajamas and do not bother anymore.
Of course, not plastic.
