Outer Lung Polyps from Positive Air Flow

Post by 2Tim215 » Thu Oct 04, 2018 5:32 am

I was told from a CT Scan that I have polyps that developed on the outside of my lungs.

The cause they said was from Positive Air flow.

Is it possible these are caused by my CPAP?

Every question to my primary care seems to result in another specialist appointment with few answers ever found.

I try to be proactive in my health-care but I have been lacking.

Has anyone else here had this diagnosis?

Thank you...

Never heard of it from cpap.
CPAP doesn't do anything to the lungs. All it does is hold the airway open so that when you breathe the air actually reaches the lungs.
It's not a ventilator. It can't force your lungs to do anything they aren't already doing on their own.

I wasn't sure what was meant from "positive air flow". It wasn't stated as a CPAP issue, I believe it was my thought that provoked the question.

I did search topics first and didn't find any other posts that seemed related.

I appreciate your reply, that helps. Now I just need to figure out what has caused these outer lung polyps. Time to review pasts scans!

Polyp is not a word we usually hear in relation to lungs. Were there any other terms used that might clarify? Could outer in this case mean in the periphery but still inside the lung? At any rate, I think a polyp is a growth on a musocal surface. Trying to think of how air could cause a growth. Do you have lung disease of any kind? There are things called blebs located in the lung periphery that are distended air sacs that can bulge to the outside of the lung. People with lung disease of this sort may need special considerations in treating sleep apnea. Kinda sounds like your doctor didn't do a thorough job of explaining what's going on with you. When we as patients are first hearing information it's hard to process it in a quick office visit. Hard to ask questions till there's been some time to mull things over. Do you have a copy of your report? If reading the report and looking up all the terms used in it still leaves you with questions, ask your doctor. Your family doctor can explain your diagnosis. You're not asking for further treatment at this point, just an explanation. Did you see a pulmonologist to get your diagnosis of a polyp or was it a result in some test your general practitioner ordered? If you haven't already seen one, I wouldn't balk at having a consult with a pulmonologist. Good luck with things.

Good question.. CPAP doesn't create "positive air flow", rather positive air pressure.

Suggest a stern "wth are you babbling on, use english!" to whoever used the term :D

make sure you're not dealing with mesothelioma. it is a cancer of the outer lining of the organs, most closely associated with the lungs. i don't know how it presents itself in the different stages. i don't know if it involves polyps. i pray you don't have it.

Google lung polyps (nodules). I think that you will receive some reassurance. Please follow up with your physicians. I hope that all works out well.

Are you using nodule and polyp interchangeably? I've been out of working in pathology so many years I don't fully trust my memory. I just know I would want precision in a diagnosis of anything growing in me.
