Curious how an authorized ResMed and Respironics Dealer can sell new machines with waranty and not require a Prescription?

Or it is an anonymous party, impersonating a real dealer.
They could intend to take the money--and vanish into the night.

I had a respected dealer (real, who is often mentioned here) tell me that they would need a prescription for a bilevel machine, but could "work around it" if one wanted to buy a CPAP or APAP.

I am sure some retailers cringe at this. $1000+ vs prices like those in the link.

As far as I am concerned this is part of what is wrong with Healthcare. IF having a prescription was that important, simply build these machines with a chip/token override. Your Doctor gets you a chip/token to use in a CPAP or whatever machine you need. Won't operate without it. That way you can buy what you want at competitive pricing. Put the chip/token in yourself, or have the nurse do it for you.

Prescription = Racket

I paid $1269 for a Resmed airsense 10 auto set and a ff mask, which were delivered with a fitting visit. Allow a fitting cost of $125 and I paid hundreds of dollars over what I can buy this exact machine and mask for. At least in my ignorance I was offered a very good machine.

8 of the 9 masks I own were bought without a prescription. Explain the need for a prescription for a mask?

Craigslist.

As someone who unfortunately has to investigate criminal activity on Craigslist (among others), I wouldn't trust 90% of the people selling on there. Sure, I'm probably jaded and there are likely more decent people selling things there, but I'd rather just not take the chance.

Just because someone claims to be an "authorized dealer" and has pretty pictures up on a Craigslist ad does not mean it's legit. Be wary.

Personally, I like the secondary markets that offer people without a prescription the chance to get a good machine at a decent price. I wish people wouldn't call them out on here.

The guideline is to be careful when dealing with strangers.
References need to be genuine.
CG is right that there are some good ones out there.

The problem is that Craigslist isn't known for being reputable. I've got zero problems with secondary markets, because that means more people get help, but Craigslist is rife with scams and frauds because there is very little defense against them. As long as someone who is planning on buying from Craigslist follows some guidelines and pays attention, they *should* be ok, but it's incumbent upon them to do their research and not get scammed.

As far as I am reading in this forum Craigslist seems a safe and good way to go with.

CL is only for a knowledgeable, careful and verifying buyer.

If you look under Seller Information, you will see the seller is not Amazon.

There are so many people in this journey that give up and just quit. “I can’t tolerate the machine!!!” And hey want to sell it or turn it back in.
What happens to those slightly used machines?
If you paid out of pocket can ou sell it or give it away or you have a 5 year old machine and are getting a new one from insurance and your old one still works fine and you want to sell it for 50 bucks or give it to someone who has no insurance and needs one and you want to help them.

I’ve been wearing hearing aids now for 18 years
They cost nothing to manufacture and sell for 5000 per pair. I see used aids on Craig’s list all the time. My dads were used two weeks and he passed
His entire health care system is a rip off
So who has gone to jail for changing there pressure

There are no laws that prevent an individual from selling a CPAP machine he owns.

Something new is coming. Audio companies who make hearing devices for listening to music want to enter the market.
"You can imagine a $5000 hearing aid has no more than $300 worth of components, and there's not many products with that kind of markeup in the US at all,” Dr. Cherukuri said. ... "The vast majority of customers have a very similar configuration of hearing loss,” the doctor said. “So we programmed our hearing aids to have two, three or four different configuration settings along with a volume dial."

These hearing aids sell for $200 to $550 a piece. His newest is a rechargeable hearing aid that doesn't require batteries.

Dr. Cherukuri says ‘MD Hearing Aids’ are FDA registered as a class one medical device and are made of high quality components that you will find in more expensive, traditional hearing aids. He recommends patients first get a hearing exam to make sure they find the right fit.
Now, the hard part is to get our oppressive government to drop the prescription requirement for hearing aids. Instead of $5000, you go to the doc and get a simple hearing test. The test will show which of four hearing aid configurations are appropriate for your condition. You get a note show the configuration number. Then, you stop at Walmart and buy a very good hearing aid for $300. As more competitors enter the market, the price will fall to the $100 - $150 range.

Just informaion. I bought the mask from Quality Sourced Products, There is at least one other Company selling them.I was unsure at first if the package included all the mask parts because of the price. I checked with Amazon and they checked and said that it did. There were no reviews of the product at that time saying that it did.
I guess Ebay has more integrity than Amazon.
