Philips Respironics is weird

Post by raisedfist » Wed Sep 12, 2018 9:30 pm

I guess I never even thought about it since I have used a ResMed machine for most of my PAP life, but on a Respironic's BiPAP - a rise time setting of "2" is actually equivalent to 300 msec. Seems pretty dumb if you ask me.

That is an example of my recommendation that users not change manufacturers when getting a new machine if they are otherwise satisfied with the current one.
Minor variations in the internal algorithms like this sometimes are issues with the new machine.

Competing companies often use different terminology for the same thing.
Sometimes this is to avoid infringing on patents/copyrights.
Other times it could be part of an effort to establish brand loyalty.
In the medical field, it can be a hindrance--and possibly a hazard.

Recently replaced my ResMed S9 and thought I would try the Dreamstation. With the S9 my AHI was ALWAYS below 5 -- usually below 2. With the Dreamstation they all were in double figures. Got my DME to trade me for an A10 and the AHI readings dropped back in the same general area as the S9. If you've always had good luck with Fords, keep buying Fords.
