Hours

Post by Kringle13 » Mon Sep 10, 2018 8:50 pm

Please forgive me if this has been asked. Hubby has to be at 70% for dot. He’s been sick bad teeth infection had lots removed. He’s at 60%. He won’t pass dot. I’m confused on how long it takes to get to the 70. I’ve googled and searched and can’t find information. USA. Resmd

70% of what?

You need to ask the DOT, not us (tho' actually someone else here probably will answer).

Sometimes only a phone call will get the info you need.
Call early, and keep a charger handy. These things can take awhile. 8)

I don't see how that should affect his using CPAP. In fact, it's a reason to be using it MORE.
If he's sleeping or trying to sleep without therapy, then using therapy should help his sleep.
How long has he been using CPAP?
What specific MAKE and MODEL is he using? "Resmd" doesn't tell us anything useful.
Is it data-capable?
Does he download the data and monitor it (reports)?

Dental infections, especially in teeth pressed on by the cushion seal, could be a problem for using CPAP. A nasal pillow mask could help since they have so little pressure on the upper or lower part of the mouth.

Hi Kringle13,

The thing with Google is: you get different responses depending not only on the questions you ask, but how you word the questions. And even then, you may have to do a little digging.

I found this:

"Each State sets its own medical standards for driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle in intrastate commerce. Check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles for regulations in your State."

DOT requires 70% compliance when Driver is prescribed CPAP therapy. So, you have to use it enough that the machine registers 70% compliance. I don't remember if AHI figures into it, I think it applies to how many hours per day over a period of time the CPAP therapy is in use. My machine gives me 100% compliance at 7 hours. To only be getting 60% it has to be a good bit less than 7 hours per day average.

If the Driver is already out of compliance, I don't know the regulations for getting back into compliance. Excuses might not be listened to by the DOT personnel. They probably hear a lot of them. I would immediately start wearing the mask all I could. Even while watching tv to get the hours per day of use back up to compliance.
