Intermittent Noise from Airfit P10

Post by cby1 » Mon Sep 10, 2018 12:53 pm

Hello. Doing fine with the P10 nasal pillows "despite my high pressures" . Leaks are minimal (probably mouth, even with chinstrap) - but much less than with all the FFMs I tried over the years. Comfort is good with large pillows.

Recently, though, they've been making this intermittent noise that wakes me up, usually in my last 2 hours of sleep or so. It's not exactly a squeal, but it sure isn't just the noise of air passing through the mask either. My impression is that it's coming from the diffuser piece and not the pillows - but I could be entirely wrong, as it stops as soon as it wakes me. Makes me think it's something different about my breathing pattern/intensity during that time. The leaks seem to happen during this same period, but I don't have enough data yet, so we shouldn't immediately conclude that they are the issue - but it is kind of suspicious. I do know what a mouth leak feels/sounds like - this isn't that.

I've been steadily reducing the humidity (from 7, now will try 5 tonight) in case it's a moisture thing in the diffuser piece or similar. That used to happen occasionally with FFMs.

Searches didn't seem conclusive - any thoughts? Thanks!

My first thought is moisture in the holes and reducing the humidity setting might not be enough if the culprit is the moisture in your exhaled breath condensing. If using a heated hose I would try increasing the hose air temp just a little bit to see if that helps or not.

Thanks Pugsy - not using a heated hose, so that may be the next step.

See if you can shake out moisture from the vents on the P 10. These holes are very small and may be collecting either moister from the humidifier, your exhaled breath, or both. When you wake up and move around, it might be coming out of these holes enough to stop the noise. Just a thought......
