...someone can die in their sleep. Was the cause of death a direct result of apnea or were there other underlying causes to the condition that was worsened by apnea?...
Low oxygen levels can induce heart attack or stroke.

the replies here give me the heebie jeebies! I can assure those here (but more importantly to myself) that I am good at sticking to the program. Appreciate all the feedback.

Trying to convince other family members to either get their CPAP right away or to get their sleep study done to get a CPAP machine as they've been feeling rather dumpy in more recent years and are constantly tired.

You need to make a PSA showing that they can go horseback riding, go swimming and other fun activities all while using CPAP! And fashion masks, maybe in prints and solids. Chrome plating for Daft Punk fans. A fashion runway show with models wearing different, attractive mask types...

haha I'm sure after seeing the pictures that I shared with them with my mask on that they said "absolutely not wearing that things on my face"! Looks like some crazy bondage looking things going on your face! I guess it can be seen that way since there are all these straps, strap covers and then I have an anti-leak strap to boot on top of that too.

It can be overwhelming and last night I actually had a claustrophobic episode in my sleep and I was trying to take the mask off but couldn't b/c of all the extra junk attached on the outside + the fact that I was half asleep and not all there to realize what I was doing until I got everything off only to remask up 2 seconds later and fell back asleep!

Just tell 'em they can have one of these... and of course, will look like the model wearing it:

My parents told me that I look like a hospital patient hooked up to a breathing machine and that is not a good look... I said to them that it ain’t a beauty contest and that I have to do what I have to do to stay healthy. There is no changing their views. They’re old and naive. I just hope my siblings realize they are slowly killing themselves. One sibling knows they have moderate to severe apnea while the other isn’t sure yet since he hasn’t done a sleep study yet.

Just tell 'em that you look absolutely stunning, in the dark.

(you do look a bit scared in your profile pic, truth be told ;) )

.. . . Much to my surprise, I tolerate treatment very well and I just told my family doctor yesterday that despite having a very low borderline apnea value that I feel a LOT better using CPAP.

It was more of a curiosity question since I haven’t actually slept without my CPAP since I started treatment.
Severity is a funny thing (for Sleep Apnea and probably for many other diseases). The clinical indicators can be severe and one can be asymptomatic or nearly so, whereas one can have a mild case (per clinical indicators) and feel awful!

It's a lot like glasses.
Without my glasses, I can't see worth crap.
Without my cpap, I am unable to sleep and breathe at the same time.
Just plain miserable without my "crutches".
Glasses - Yes I 100% agree
I TOTALLY agree with this. And I have been wearing hard contacts daily for almost 30 years. Just get used to both and call it a day.

I feel better/younger at 71 than I did at 41.
It's all about GREAT SLEEP.
What I wear at night stays in the bedroom.
Only the positive effects go out with me--and I look (and feel) FABULOUS.
