I don't believe the standard and soft response that you are referring to is the same as the extra mode on the for her model.
The for her is actually an additional algorithm.

My 2 cents..

Get the AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her. It has that 3rd algorithm ...the for her apap mode...that you might find you like.
It still has the regular auto algorithm if you don't like the for her mode
Plus the fixed cpap mode.

You lose nothing and gain some pretty leaves and a 3 rd mode of operation. Price is the same.
I rather like that 3 rd mode myself and it isn't necessarily "just for the gals" either.

If the leaves bug you too much ..for $20 you can get a different face plate...black or silver and it's easy to change...I have done it (for a guy who just didn't want the leaves but absolutely loves the machine in the for Her mode).
He is in Australia...so couldn't get it otherwise...So I got it for him and changed the face plate and sent it to him.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. Whole different deal from the "for her" algo.

I saw the "soft" and "standard" response settings on my new to me machine but they aren't even in the clinical manual as far as I can tell.

The regular Airsense 10 Autoset has had a firmware update for some time now that emulates the "for her" extra mode you are referring to. It is a "soft" response that is within the settings. There really is no reason to get the "for her" model now unless you like the coloration.
No, you're almost completely wrong about that.

The "soft" vs "regular" response *does not*, replace the 'for her' mode.

"AutoSet Response can be set to either Standard or Soft. If set to Soft, patients will receive gentler pressure rises during therapy."

The AutoSet for Her is similar to ResMed’s AutoSet algorithm with the following modifications:
 Reduced rate of pressure increments designed to help prevent arousals.
 Slower pressure decays.
 Treats apneas up to 12 cm H 2 O and continues to respond to flow limitation and snore up to
20 cm H 2 O.
Minimum pressure (Min. Pressure) that adjusts according to the frequency of apneas:
If two apneas occur within a minute, the pressure reached in response to the second apnea will
become the new minimum treatment pressure until the next treatment session.

I went from a PRS1 to a ResMed Airsense Autoset and I LOOOVE my ResMed, so you are making a good choice.

First, the PRS1 has a KNOWN flaw in the humidifier and it simply stops working at some point. I used it for at least 3 years with no heat for humidification. Even when the heater worked, the air always seemed refrigerator cold and caused some condensation at the nose in nasal masks.

The PRS1 sounded like an airplane engine compared to my almost dead silent ResMed.

I like the algorithm so much better on the ResMed. The PRS1 always made me feel like I had to breathe in it's rhythm, I don't even notice the rhythm in the ResMed--the best way to describe it is that it feels "softer". I thought I would have a hard time adjusting to the change, but I was very comfortable from the very first night I used it.

There's no annoying beep when you turn on the ResMed (what genius at PR thought that was a good idea???) although the screen does light up when you first turn it on. There's no light on the humidifier all night as there is on the PRS1 (another stupid PR idea!).

I think you will be very happy with your new machine.

it's my belief that your "2 cents" is worth at least 2 dollars! :) so always happy to hear you weigh in.

yes i remember several threads, discussing skin on the "for her" version. i will go for that version and take my chances with being emasculated by it.

and i remember discussions about the algorithms as well. maybe that will even help me!

while you didn't direct that at ME, thanks for posting the info. sounds like i'm going to be getting a machine that will give more control or what have you over my apneas.

thank you, jan, for the details. i never really had any noise from the unit over the first 2 years of use. in fact, i thought was quieter than my devilbiss that i used my first year. but less noise is always good.

maybe they thought that hearing a buzz after you pressed it made you feel like, psychologically, something was really happening?

it's like every damned gadget you buy now a days has to have a blue led light to shine all through the night!

anyway, thanks. your info helped a lot!!

Well, in all fairness, you weren't the one that posted the invalid information. :)

okay, it's a done deal. the "for her" model, horrors! :) $706.40 with the discount, no tax and free "nest day air" shipping. that's in quotes because i ordered too late in the day to ship out today. but who gives a rip?

thanks, everybody!

Through midnight tonight our host CPAP.com has the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset (as well as the For Her model) on sale for 20% off. Use coupon code PERFECT20.

They're good folks.
a special thanks to you for pointing this out. i'm sure i got the postcard in the mail, glanced at it and threw it away, thinking i wouldn't need it.

i've got to stop doing things like that. at least, i should wait until the offer expires.

again, thanks!

You're most welcome.

I actually got the notice in an email. You might want to sign up for their list; they frequently have promotions going on.

I think you'll really like the machine. I just got a very low mileage used one last week hoping to replace my aging PRS1 Bipaps and so far it's really doing the job.
