I didn't respond because I have three machines. The first two are fixed cpaps(resmed) from a local dme. The third is the resmed auto spirit that I purchased online.

Thanks for explaining the meaning of DMP. I got mine through Lincare (local DMP) because at the time I had insurance through my husbands work. I was appalled at the price (double what it would have cost on-line for the same new machine), but went with it because the insurance paid. Now I have no isurance & hopefully my machine will last many years & I won't have to worry about buying one in the near future. It hope in time these machines come down in cost. I was more shocked at the cost of the masks than the machine! I'm trying to make my first one last as long as possible.

I also have insurance and if I used an "in network" DME they would pay 90% of the cost, but I too was appalled by the $2500 - $3000 quotes I was getting from the DMEs compared to less than $1000 online for the same equipment. I talked to my insurance to see if I could buy online and submit a claim myself and they OK'd it.

These inflated prices are what cause health insurance to be so costly.

I had to do a little extra work, but it cost me about the same and saved my insurance company $$$$$. Also I know I got much better service and much better selection of equipment to choose from.

Mine which I'm purchasing next week (I have a 30 day trial one at the moment) is going to cost me $1305. Cdn. (Including a separate mask as the one with it won't fit), $750 of which will be covered by a government program here in Canada (can't remember the name of it, ADP, I think). The balance will be paid by my insurance.

Just curious...?
In what way did you get better service from an online provider?

Do you get a 24 hour on call respiratory therapist who will come to your home within a 6 hour period at no charge to refit a mask, reducate, trouble shoot a machine, provide a loaner machine, or just give you some much needed support?

$2500 to $3000 is absurd for a machine/humidifier/mask and all related supplies, but it appears to me that these national DME's have these lucritive deals (and won't let any other DME's into their networks) with the insurance companies for prices like that. I've worked at two different local small scale DME's and have done billing for both. Our negotiated rates are nowhere near those prices. We don't use cheap machines either, we use the M Series Auto with A-flex or the S8 Autoset II....if you aren't satisfied with those options we will get you what YOU want.

Not all DME's are evil, money hungry, greedy, non-caring companies.

There are some out there who want to help YOU the patient, not their pockets.

I am borrowing mine from the neighbor.. She said her husband no longer needs it..

ps. Finally ordered my Swift for her LT mask, tubing and filters today from Cpap.com.. I am hoping my doctor will respond quickly and fax Cpap.com the prescription.. The guy came yesterday to put the settings into the Cpap machine. Now just have to wait on my doctor...

I chose "other" because my machine came from a national DME -- Apria -- though it was from the local office. Even if this is an older thread -- it was at the top of the list today. I didn't notice the date! LOL!
