Nose mask vs nasal pillows?
Nose mask vs nasal pillows?
The nasal pillows have been recommended here to me quite a bit, and I haven't tried them yet. And I see everyone's experience seems different. And it's likely been asked a zillion times, but...... I've just woken up frustrated at finding my nose mask on the floor a second time in one night, again. (happens every now and then) This too I know is common.
But are nasal pillows ripped off peoples' faces in their sleep any less frequently than nose masks? Or can I expect to be ripping those suckers off the same as my nose mask?
........dumb question, I'm sure.

It's all about you and nothing about the mask. If you are one to have troubles with tolerating a particular interface, all you can do is try another. I have NEVER found my mask on the floor. I have also tried masks that I hated. Take a look at cpap.com and pick out a nasal pillow unit and try it out!

If I had been reading and posting here for more than a week I'd be asking myself what am "I" doing wrong. If an interface doesn't work get another ! There are no secrets here. Just trial and error and perseverance. Make it work or get another mask/interface ! What works for you may be hell for me .
Sooner or later we have to suck it up and realise that only we can control our treatment. Nobody else cares.
As the honorable Mr . Trafficant used to say, "Beam me up " Oopps he went to jail didn't he. See what happens when you're not PC.

I tried the pillows during my sleep study for a very short time and took an immediate dislike to them. The nasal I first used were too large, which I took off after a short time. I just had my first night's sleep with the cpap last night at the clinic. I get my cpap on Monday. My nose is very tender today and irritated. I hope this will get better. Any suggestions on what I should do when I get my machine Monday. What will I do if I really can't handle wearing the nasal???

I just had my first night of sleep study. My questions is, when I have the gastric bypass surgery and lose weight, will I still have to wear this equipment? I have not received all results, but oxygen level did go down to 76. That they did not like.
you just need some tape!
Some folks are crazy enough to tape their mouths closed, why not have
your husband tape your hands together and then your mask will stay
on. Just how crazy does this illness make all of us?

So are you being prescribed the nasal pillows? I don't know what is typically done, but I thought they usually start you off with a nose mask. Were you tested with that? Did you have trouble with a nose mask? Is your equipment being mailed to you or do you pick it up? Is there a way of contacting your doctor or wherever you arranged for the equipment, to ask for something else if the nasal pillows don't work? Wearing nasal pillows is like anything else your body is not used to. It is going to take a while for it to adjust to these foreign bodies in your nares. Usually a little neosporin ointment will help to heal up any soreness you might have the first few nights. I used to use just a dab on the nostrils right before I went to bed.

Over the years I've tried both. At first I couldn't tolerate a nasal nask, but did fine with nasal pillows. I then went to a Monarch Mini Mask (no longer made, but it just sat on the end of your nose). Now I can even sleep comfortably in a ffm in allergy season. I haven't tried the Breeze, but a lot of people love it. Over time you might find, as I have that switching masks once in a while to give your face a rest is good, and acquire several different masks that work for you. Everyone's face is different. I would, however, agree with the posting above about the Activa. It is by far the finest mask I have ever slept in and presently my mask of choice.
Re: Nose mask vs nasal pillows?
Contrary to others maybe not quite "caring" about someone's comfort, well many of DO care, and want to know when someone has a problem, maybe someone can draw on their own experiences and pass that info along.
I use the Swift Nasal pillow. IMHO, is it perfect, no? Does it bother your face, sometimes. Do I rip it off, sure, but mostly toward morning. It doesn't really lay on your nose, forehead so for me, it is about all I can tolerate. For those who can ''suck it up'' and slap on something and sleep, that is a true gift, for many of us, it's a trial by error thing.
Check out cpap.com prods, and maybe try something different. We do care, and that's why we tune into the board.
Good Luck

Thanks. That was so nice.
I'm not quite ready to make another purchase just yet (bills piling up), but will soon, and I will consider these. I'm not sure if I'll like having something up my nose, and the doc seems to think the pressure of the nose pillows will be worse, but I'm willing to try anything. Maybe even a better nose mask too. Thanks for the great advice and the kind words.

Re: Nose mask vs nasal pillows?
I'm not a sales rep for any co, dr, DME, nothing. But dealing with cpap.com for any future items you may need is wonderful, they are caring, ans. any zillion questions, shipping out quickly, and you can always ask the board. As you've seen it's on 24/7 and everyone has tried everything that's out there and then some....
It's a whole new experience dealing with the diagnosis, and such a ''busy'' arrangement just to fall asleep, like never before. It's a small wonder that so many of us ARE indeed compliant.
I don't know if anyone has a difference nasal interface that's new and never used they might work out with you, ask on this board, I've seen people offer to sell/trade things.........just a thought...
Hang in there..
