Changed mask size from M to L - Wow!

Post by glarnold » Tue Jul 10, 2018 2:11 pm

For over ten years, I've been using a full face mask. (Mouth breather, side sleeper) Was fitted by DME supplier with size medium. Have used various size Medium Quatro masks. Pro, FX, and now the new Air. The Air gave improved numbers. But for kicks, I ordered a new one a few days ago, in a size Large (my first). Three nights in and the difference is totally amazing. AHI's went from between 2 and 3, to under 1. Leaks nearly non-existent. And feeling much more rested. Just something to consider if you're out of ideas. I also now have a nearly new Quatro Air (M) that I'd be willing to swap for a size L.

Same thing here. Started down this road with a medium F20 and had nose bridge soreness that turned into a blister/abrasion within a day or two. Switched to large with the F20 and the subsequent blister took nearly 5 months to reoccur. Threw in the towel on the F20. Next tried the DWFF in medium. No blister/abrasion but a lot of upper/lower front tooth & gum pain immediately. Both of these in spite of manufacturer's templates saying "medium" was my ideal being easily and far away the most correct size for me. Next came the DWFF in Large and I've been in heaven ever since! Never thought of myself as large anything but after much fiddling with strap tightening/loosening and printing templates for BOTH masks to "exact size" using a quarter (25 cent piece) or credit card scaling tools I've concluded that manufacturer's templates are about as accurate as having someone else fitting me for masks... essentially worthless. A well-fitted mask is indeed a little slice of heaven! Now if the DW came in a nasal FF version it would likely be my mask for life... ok ok maybe an hour but least I'd know for sure

i'm glad that worked out for you! it's amazing how someone, such as yourself, can be with cpap for fives years, yet you can still learn of an improvement.

this just goes to show what people in this forum have been saying over and over. the most important thing (and the hardest thing!) to get right is the mask.

congrats, sir.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
