Resetting a used machine - AirSense 10 AutoSet

Post by Dog Slobber » Sun Jul 08, 2018 3:36 pm

I just bought a second (used) device, a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet to be used as a spare/travel machine. I currently use a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her.

When I went to check it out, I:
  • Confirmed it was an AutoSet
  • Gave it a test run on both my nasal mask and pillows
  • Did a "Run Mask Fit"
  • Entered Clinical Mode
  • Checked out the Usage Hours - (375 hours)
I asked the seller if the machine was registered at my air.resmed.com, he didn't know what that was.

I'll be re-formating the SD Card.

My Question:

Is there a single option to factory reset the unit to purge all his data, or should I be changing each configuration line by line to match my own settings?

Any other suggestions to reset the AirSense 10 AutoSet prior to me using it?

FWIW - For the two months I have been looking to get a spare AutoSet and been looking on kijiji and FB Marketplace. A painful experience because of the variance in pricing, unreal expectations of sellers, ignorance of sellers regarding the model of their device.

I bought this unit for $300 CDN (approx $230 US):
  • ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet
  • Humidifier
  • Stock (non-heated tube)
  • SD Card
  • Carrying case
  • Complete documentation
  • 375 hours

You did good--good deal, nearly new blower.
Resetting: If it is in the clinical menu, you can do it.
Cannot zero out the run hours, but no need to.

The reset options that you want are in the Clinician’s Menu

The Clinician’s Guide has been linked here.

Yes, there's a 'restore defaults' and a 'erase data', you'd need to do the 'erase data' to get the previous users recorded data out of the machine, and then you can use the 'restore defaults' or not, you still need to go through and set all the settings to match your current machine... for me, the only time to do 'restore defaults' is if I'm selling the machine, just so the other person can 'start fresh', with their settings.

change the filter and wipe it down.. give the water tank a good cleaning/vinegaring.

Thank you for the replies.

I should have mentioned in my original post post that the humidifier tank had a bunch of mineral deposits on the sides and bottom.

I let it sit in 50% vinegar/water solution for a half hour, cleaned it up. Wasn't happy with how much deposits remained. So I created a solution of 50% lemon juice / water, let it sit for an hour. It came out sparking.

I couldn't believe how much deposits were in it, I'm used to my own, where I use distilled water, top up for the week (sometimes 2) then wash it. Looked like the guy was using it to mix cement.

I have thrown his filter out and placed a new, original filter (still in the packaging) in the carrying bag on the machine. I don't see the value of opening it considering it may be months and months before I use it.

I found and applied the Erase Data and Restore Defaults options, reconfigured it identical to by similar model and everything good.

A couple more questions for those of you who keep identical spares.

Do you regularly switch them up to ensure they both are maintained and in good working order, or do you keep your spare packed up and untouched until needed?

If you keep them packed up, do you keep the Device and Humidifier in plastic bags similar to how it was shipped to prevent the seals and rubber from drying out?

I haven't turned on my spare since I got it 2 years ago.

My spare has not been used since last July. My wife used it from March through June of last year. They were trying to make sure she did not need to have an ASV type machine. It has been pack in the carrying case since then. When we got her new machine, the new hose and water chamber went in the case with the spare machine.

My original data-less Escape is now my hose dryer. My S8 APAP sits in it's travel case, haven't touched it since attended Dragon Con in 2015 after which it was cleaned and vinegar-ed. I do not put pieces in baggies.

I always just use straight vinegar. I usually put a paper towel in to wick the vinegar up the sides, that way I only need a little.. and let it sit for a while (usually an few hours, cuz I get busy doing other stuff.

the lemon juice or citric acid thing works too.

other countries, the manuals just say "use water" since distilled water is harder to get there.

I don't see any harm in putting the filter in, packaging or no, but if you choose not to do so, make sure you don't forget to put the filter in when you do go to use it.

I would advise using the new machine for a few days now, just to make sure it does work good, and there's no issues, you don't want to find a problem after you've gone on vacation.

The seals are silicone, there's nothing to dry out. There's no rubber in the device/hose/mask.

Seals and rubbers are elastomers - plastics - and not prevented from losing plasticisers by storage in plastic bags. The plastic bag is for basic cleanliness maintenance.

Household vinegar is already diluted to ~5% acetic acid, pH ~2.4. The juice of the lemon is about 5% to 6% citric acid, with a pH ~2.2. pH is a logarithmic function so there is no practical difference between them. They are weak acids, quickly ‘consumed’, so your effective action was renewing the solution.
