Mask selection and placement during titration

Post by D.H. » Wed Jul 04, 2018 8:18 pm

Does anybody remember who put the mask on when you were titrated?

I think we can increase compliance by making patients put the masks on themselves.

The tech put mine on. But I was so damn tired and everything was so new to me, that I doubt I could have figured it out myself.

I know it's daunting. However, I really think that this seemingly trivial item in the initial titration protocol needs more attention. Once you get home, the technician will not be coming to your house to help you with the mask.

I became aware of this when I realized that a friend of mine who had recently been prescribed CPAP was not even aware that he could adjust the straps!

While a lot more attention is paid to the machine than the mask, it is the mask with which that patients come into direct contact.

Fitting the mask is the job of the DME..not the Sleep Lab Tech.

They don't do it either.

Also, the lab is the very first exposure most get to the mask. It's best to start at the very beginning.

We can always depend on one person to provide the nonsense of the day.

Just because YOU think it's nonsense does not mean it's nonsense. Some here consider it a very appropriate topic! Some here consider the vast majority of your posts to be nonsense.

Do you like this one too Lucy?

One thing that medical professionals can do it to walk the floors of hospitals and look for patients displaying the obvious signs of Sleep Apnea (loud or irregular snoring and gasping). I don't believe that this is being done. However, since medical providers are already in hospitals, it's a good place to start.

Perhaps jnk... can set up a poll to see how many people consider the the vast majority of YOUR posts to be useless nonsense verses how many of the frogs posts.

I'll bet a ten spot that you'd win the 'most useless' of the two.
