The worst is when you're searching Google for an answer to a question, and the first few results are all snarky forum posts telling the asker to Google for the answer. It's enough to make a younger person prematurely crotchety.Jeff_Snore_No_More wrote: ↑Tue Jun 26, 2018 3:26 pmThen you have the users who like to say things like, "Google is your friend." Pugsy, you are doing an excellent job. I believe this forum is a better place because of you.
"Basic humanity" is an observation on our society as a whole. If we treat people with respect we will be respected in return. If we attach the post and not the poster we will grow from the interaction that follows.
This sounds pretty good to me. Keep up the good work and we all will benefit from it.

Oh, the huge manatee!!!
Seriously,....there's always going to be 'keyboard commandos' out there if you're going to belong to ANY forum. Just remember, it's the internet and not anything that should have a direct, personal impact on you. If it does bother one that much, you may want to rethink priorities.

That is the problem with google... Yeah, the answer's usually out there, and sometimes it's even close to the top... *IF* you ask it the right question. I was just talking to someone today about the most important part of using a search engine is being able to recognize which of the results are the ones that are leading to the correct answers for the problem at hand.Jeff_Snore_No_More wrote: ↑Tue Jun 26, 2018 3:26 pmThen you have the users who like to say things like, "Google is your friend." All humans are basic.
And the Internet isn't so much a group as it is a collection of individuals.

Re: Are there no rules for basic humanity in this group?
Precisely. Google can't read your mind as to what you REALLY want to ask, and it's a real balancing act trying to figure out how to put in as few words as possible while putting in enough to define what you're looking for. For example, if I wanted to find out what percentage of people who use the Resmed AirFit 20 mask still experience hypopneas, how would I get an answer in Google without going through the thousands of results? I know there are ways of limiting, advanced search, and all that. But still...palerider wrote: ↑Tue Jun 26, 2018 7:04 pmThat is the problem with google... That is SOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!!!!!!! Seriously!! I'm not taking any credit, but I sure do understand what you mean! When people care and help by saying more than "Google is your friend", it is tremendously rewarding. I often say to my wife, half kiddingly, that I'm rapidly losing faith in the human race. Then I come to these internet forums and find a collection of good-hearted, smart people around the world who want to help. My faith is restored.

Re: Are there no rules for basic humanity in this group?
In all fairness, however, sometimes the answer to the person's question really is incredibly simple to find, and they're just too lazy to even try looking... those are the frustrating ones. Like people that come in here, and post a question, and what they're asking about is answered in a thread that's *still on the front page*!Jeff_Snore_No_More wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 10:46 amPrecisely. Re: Are there no rules for basic humanity in this group?
Asking Google feels like asking a machine. People come here to get answers customized specifically for them from other real people.
People don't understand that half of us here on this board are only machines ourselves, just like Google.
