Two questions about mask (getting started): taking off in middle of night; small hole by design?

Post by dh37 » Fri Jun 15, 2018 11:16 am

Did my first night of XPAP last night. (Luckily, Apria didn't ship me a brick, but rather a ResMed Airsense 10.)

Getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom: I'm inferring from the discussions here that it's fine to just let the machine continue to run. Where should detach the hose? Where the small hose connects to the mask; where the two hoses connect to each other; where the long hose connects to the machine? I figure it's personal preference, but wanted to check. (Seems like the first or second option is best.)

Second, the little hose that attaches to the mask (it's an Airfit N20 nasal mask): it seems that there's some kind of hole or perforation on the hose's fitting that attaches to the mask. (I'm at work and don't have the hose in front of me.) So when the machine ran, I could feel a tiny jet of air coming out there. Based on its location, I figured it was by design, but wasn't sure. Is that possible?

Cheers,

S

There should be exhale vents on the hard plastic shell near the hose.

Which Airsense 10 Model?
Autoset, Autoset For Her, CPAP, Elite

Unhook your hose wherever easiest for you.

The holes at the front of the mask are there for venting your expired air.

Just to reinforce what's been said..

Unhook the hose whereever works best for you, If you've got one of the masks that has an elbow that clips to it, that's convenient.

The little holes that vent air are there to keep you from suffocating to death, ergo, they're your friend... make sure they're open and blowing whenever the machine is on.
