Resumed AirMini and Medistrom battery review

My name is Ken and I have sleep apnea.
There, I got that out of the way.
I have been using cpap machines for about 8 years.
Resmed s8 and Airsense10.
I recently picked up a AirMini and here are my thoughts on this machine.
It is small! I am an avid motorcycle camper so I wanted something small, The AirMini is the size of a thick cel phone. So that part is perfect.
I am disappointed that resmed went with masks that only work with this machine. I can’t use the mask I use with my airsense10. I might see if I can adapt something to work later on.
The exhaust on the mask hose is right beside my face and I concentrated so much on that noise so much that I couldn’t fall asleep. A pair of foam earplugs solved that problem and I now fall asleep very quickly.
My next concern was the power supply.
I wanted the battery to be able to run the cpap for at least 2 nights (16 plus hours). The medistrom pilot 24 works very well for this. I just finished my second nights sleep on continuous battery power and it has run 17 hours
So far, perfect!
My machine is set for 6.6 CWP so that definitely helps get long battery life.
So, I think I am ready to go and try it out on a motorcycling camping trip. As long as I get the battery charged on the third day, I am good to go.
Over all, I am pleased with the AirMini and I would recommend it to my friends.

The proprietary connection was a HUGE MISTAKE.
Of course, only a company with ResMed's level of GREED would do it.

What mask are you using? I would expect the P10 Pillows for AirMini would exhaust just like the normal mask.

I am using the nasal pillows, but the exhaust sound is much noisier than my airsense10 system

I think some have found it quieter without the pseudo-humidifier piece if you do not need the humidity.

I just bought the AirMini as well and like others, the proprietary connections were a huge marketing mistake and completely unnecessary. I already have a Transcend and it comes with a simple plastic adapter that fits the proprietary connector on the machine but allows for the use of a standard CPAP tube AND THUS any mask. Forcing proprietary connections means proprietary tubes AND limited mask selections. Has anyone else noted the "cheapest" replacement Airmini tube is about $39 vs $5 for a standard 6' CPAP tube?

I've seen the above noted thread for a mask hack and i'm working on an idea too. Not only do I want to overcome the proprietary mask connection (so i can use my very quiet standard P10 mask) but I also want a very short tube for air travel -- no need for 6' for hose when the space between me and the tray table is just inches. I'll post it if it works because I too find the mask exhaust incredibly loud. (I'm disappointed to read in another post above that it is louder without the humdifier because I don't need it and did not use it when testing. I was hoping the addition of the humidifier might lessen the noise.) How could ResMed screw this up?

I'm also interested in the Medistrom Pilot 24 LITE that I've read about here eslewhere - not so much for backup but for air travel where I only need to get one night''s use out of it, but I can't find anywhere that it is actually sold - but I've found a dozen invites to become a dealer. Anyone have a line on where to buy the Pilot 24 LITE?

I will agree with the earlier post that the AirMini is a great travel size. I've found I can put the machine, power supply, hose and mask in one of ebay's slim packing cubes and toss it into my carry on backpack without (as noted above) carrying a separate bag just for my CPAP. The AirMini packs up in this manner much smaller than the Transcend in its nice padded case.

I found this Talentcell 82Wh 24V lithium battery for $65 on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078T ... UTF8&psc=1

And bought the Medistrom cable that goes with the Pilot Battery (Part Number P24RAMDC) for $12 at an online medical supplier.


The whole setup cost me $87 and it works great with my Airmini. I haven't completely drained the battery yet so am unsure of the total runtime, but have two nights so far. I have ordered the medistrom pilot cable for my S9 Elite to try it with that unit also.

UPDATE: this battery does not put out enough amps to run the S9 with the medistrom pilot cable. It connects OK, just won't power the unit - needs 3.75 Amps.

I've been googling for that output cable and cannot find it anywhere for $12 except in Australia. Can you share where you purchased yours?
