Has anyone had issues with the Dream Mapper app correctly keeping compliance time?
Has anyone had issues with the Dream Mapper app correctly keeping compliance time?
Hi guys,
I have found myself needing to use CPAP for a few months and be "in compliance" which is defined in my case as a minimum of 4 hours per night 80% of the time. I have a Phillips Respironics Dreamstation and was set up by the very helpful sleep specialist with the app which then auto reports my times.
I have used it daily (nightly whatever) for the entire time I have had it and have kept fastidious time records via both a 4 hour count down timer as well as the time shown on the machine but have found that the app for some reason the app tends to stop at somewhere around 3.5 hours where it generally stays till I run up at least 4.5 to 5 hours of time when it will then jump forward to more or less the correct time. This is a major annoyance since I was not following the app early on and I have 4 nights that show 3.5 hours of use. Not enough to cause compliance issues but enough to screw me out of spending a weekend out on my boat.
I work 12 hour shifts and CPAP compliance it a severe burden on my work days. Basically once you count commute time, cross over time with my colleagues etc, I have basically 9 hours at home between needing to get back to work. Sleeping with this thing is a complete non-starter. I will not bore you with the details, I am sure you have heard them all before. That means that I am stuck either dealing with wearing this thing as I am working on small projects in my shop or while I am working on my computer. I do not have cushy chairs, I don't own a tv, and I am not generally inclined to lay around. That means being stuck playing huff and puff instead of eating dinner, instead of drinking water, instead of playing with my dog but most importantly instead of sleeping. The extra hour or so to deal with the app being silly is tolerable on my days off, but on my work days I am not dealing with 3 - 3 1/2 hours of sleep max and cutting an extra hour out of that is a real burden.
Has anyone else seen this issue and/or know of a fix for it?
Short term, I uninstalled the app and have been taking a picture of the screen showing the 4.0 hours therapy time each night before I go to bed in the event that there is any issues with the data saved on the card.

My machine & app are recording the same.
I'm also still in the compliance period, going on 6 months. I don't have to "do" anything as far as reporting compliance. The gal from the DME who set up my machine told me they check usage via the modem. It doesn't matter if people have the app, it's strictly so you can see your own usage easily.
Have you tried "Sleepyhead" software?

I do not have the sleepyhead software. Does it do the same reporting function? By chance does it include an alarm for when you hit 4.0 hours? I would dearly love that!
My machine does not update via modem. I had the option of going that route but opted not to so it's either sd card or the app. Lucky for me, my compliance is not a huge deal, I am not stuck in the Guido and Luigi compliance loop I have seen others stuck in, like I said, just a few months and then I am back to good.

It is never an issue if you keep it on all the time you are sleeping.
Trying to game the system--you lose--in more ways than one.

We're not interested in helping you FAKE compliance.aswayze wrote: ↑Sat Apr 21, 2018 6:42 pmI work 12 hour shifts and CPAP compliance it a severe burden on my work days. Give the thing back if you're not going to use it. It doesn't help you when you don't sleep with it.

I am not gaming the system.
I am complying as much as required and no more.
I work in a dangerous profession and I cannot be showing up to work worn out.
Like I said, "sleeping" with the CPAP is not going to happen. No sense jumping through all the hoops to try to acclimate to this thing when it is a short term deal. Better instead to do the minimum required then move on.

You're not complying at all... wearing it when not sleeping *is not compliance*.aswayze wrote: ↑Sat Apr 21, 2018 9:32 pmI am not gaming the system.

Hope you don't kill anybody in your "dangerous profession".

Re: Has anyone had issues with the Dream Mapper app correctly keeping compliance time?
Sorry I missed your helpful response Palerider.
Who should I give it back to? I bought it, it's my toy to use or ignore at my whim. This is not a rental, it's not an insurance company thing, I am not defrauding anyone.
As I have already pointed out, this IS compliance. I just don't want to have to comply any more than needed.
If I sleep with it, and I knock the mask off in my sleep then I wake up and I have not been in compliance, THAT is non-compliance. Some of us work for a living so I don't just have the option to sleep longer. The only way to insure compliance is to be compliant before you go to sleep.
The only fatigue related accidents we have had at work have been related to exhausted CPAP users. In fact, the fact I am short on sleep due to CPAP gets called out every morning during our safety briefing.

Re: Has anyone had issues with the Dream Mapper app correctly keeping compliance time?
So sounds like you're needing to meet compliance for your employer? And you can't sleep with it on?
The Sleepyhead software doesn't have a timer and doesn't record data as you're using the CPAP. It analyzes data from an SD card, giving a tremendous amount of information on the quality of your sleep. If you're wearing the CPAP but not sleeping, I don't think any info recorded would have any meaning.

Sorry, I missed your question about needing help.
Then why do you even care if you fake using it for 4 hours or not?
As pointed out. "compliance" means WEARING IT WHILE SLEEPING... not faking it while wanting to get out on your boat.
You're such an expert at cpap use.
I'm sure you diligently tell them "I'm faking the use of my cpap and that's cutting into my sleep hours, WHERE I'M NOT USING THE DAMN THING"... eh?

Re: Has anyone had issues with the Dream Mapper app correctly keeping compliance time?
So just who is it that you need to prove 4 hours of use each night to????

This is just insane, why would you ever buy a machine you have no intention on using proper, also were you diagnosed with OSA? If so you need to be using that machine, especially if it is a safety concern.. This really bothers me.. Hope you get busted man..

Re: Has anyone had issues with the Dream Mapper app correctly keeping compliance time?
Who I am complying to is not relevant. Again, it is my machine and nobody is going to bust me.
It is not insurance, it is not my employer and it is not you.
For this instance, compliance is important, sleeping with CPAP is not. Such that, as I mentioned, I do not want to waste noncompliance days to chance. Again, for my needs compliace is wearing it, sleeping or not has no relevance. I do try on my off days but still end up making time in the mornings which is not an option on work days.
So I take it nobody has any input on the Dream Mapper app issue?

Wtf are you even using it for it doesn't make any sense at all? Something not right about this..The machines are made to treat SA while sleeping not when awake..
