Take what you like...leave the rest

Post by Snoozin' Bluezzz » Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:52 am

Just my $.02 on another post thread full of frustration and vitriol.

How about we all adopt the policy of "Take what you like, leave the rest".

I spent too much time on this forum in the past getting bent out of shape by this poster of that poster. I came to realize several things:
  • * Emotions and feelings do not get communicated well on a forum like this. I should have understood this from my e-mail experiences but I have to keep re-learning it (whatta dummy huh?).
    * Some folks act in real life and the digital world like emotions and feelings have no business existing except as it applies to them.
    * Some folk's forum personas have no connection to their real personas.
    * Some folk's forum personas just don't work very well whereas if you knew them personally you might come to like them.
    * Some folks are jerks but have no idea of their jerkdom.
    * Some folks are just jerks regardless of what you say to them.
    * Some of those jerks are jerks just to pull your chain.
    * Some of those jerks will remain jerks for the rest of their lives.
    * Contending with jerks is just like pouring gasoline on a fire you wish to put out.
So, once again, take what you like and leave the rest.

My therapy is working well. My Remstar Auto is doing what it needs to do for me. My Swift is working fine. I learned how to manage rainout here. I learned when and how to keep my gear clean here. I learned how to deal with mouth breathing here. I learned about the importance of monitoring my therpy here. I learned about how to keep my sinus problems under control or how to deal with them when they act up - here. I learned about panyhose solutions here. I learned about how alternate interfaces work for various folks. I have learned so much here so when I have to deal with jerkdom, massive ego, know-it-alls, thoughtless and inconsiderate responses and low level flaming I just consider the source and keep on checking in. I also know that anyone reading this post will not comprehend they possibly could fall into one of those camps. So be it.

David,
That is an excellent way of reminding everyone what cpaptalk is about:

I agree. Wise words, David.

The helpful information provided by this board far outweighs the occasional sideshows, imho.

A GREAT REMINDER THAT WE ARE ADULTS, AND NEED TO KEEP THAT FACT IN CHECK, BY ACTING IN APPROPRIATE MANNER.

I'm printing your post as a reminder...and, Yes, I'll read it, too!

Thanks for one terrific post, Snoozin' Bluezzz

Snoozin,

I read your post & I agree with the point you are making. In fact, I am going to take the painful step of acknowledging that I have been at times one of the Jerks you refer to. This is difficult for me to say but I am offering my humble appologies for any of the posts I have made in the past that have lowered the tone of this really good forum for you and anyone else.

In particular I am publicly offering my humble appologies to Rested Gal for any and all my past posts that have been offensive or accusatory. I won't attempt to explain or justify my reasons for any of those posts. The basic reality is they were out of place, unfair and poorly expressed and created distress. For that I am truly sorry.

Sincerely

Perhaps an ocasional 'sideshow' has it's good side..... it gives some of us the opportunity to reflect, to learn and to grow.

Well, we almost don't have a choice in the matter. Jerks exist everywhere. At different points in time we have all been jerks. Heck, I've been a jerk within this forum. One, or more, of the points I was trying to make is that:
  • * If we wake up to our occasional jerkdom we do not have to persist in its current manifestion and perhaps we can reduce the occurrences.
    * Some folks will never become aware of their own chronic jerkness and there is nothing I, or any one else, can do about that - no words, no coming, no staying, no going and
    * Some jerks are proud of being jerks confusing jerkness for "speaking up", "being honest or frank".
    * Other jerks just like being jerks and make no bones about, are not embarrassed by it and have no intentions of stopping. There is nothing I, or anyone else, can do about them either.
I just continue to appreciate all the good things that come here, and elsewhere, ignore the jerks when I can, restrain myself from being one myself if I can, stop my own jerkdom when I recognize it and make amends for being a jerk if necessary.

I share this not to preach or patronize but because my misunderstanding, and occassional jerkness, was interfering with the good I get out of this forum and perhaps it is a form of making amends.

If I may borrow words,

My misunderstanding, and occassional jerkness, interfered with the good I get out of this forum, and for that I apologize.

Doug, thank you. I apologize, too, for anything I've posted that came across poorly and caused you distress.

David stated it well in his opening post in this thread:

* Emotions and feelings do not get communicated well on a forum like this. I should have understood this from my e-mail experiences but I have to keep re-learning it

I have to keep remembering that also.

Tricia, very good point:

Perhaps an ocasional 'sideshow' has it's good side..... it gives some of us the opportunity to reflect, to learn and to grow.

Tricia: who just had to run and check but still only reaches 5'2"

A good sense of humor helps more than anything in life and on message boards, imho. Not the least of it is the ability to chuckle at ourselves while we reflect, learn and grow. 5'2", you say? Small world (pun intended! <groan> ) Me, too.

No fair, no fair, no matter how fast I run I'm still only 5'1". And here I'd planned to grow taller as a substitute for losing weight. I just hate plan B.

Thanks to those who have chosen to forego ego for the sake of civility. When all is said and done, being "right" is not evidenced by who spoke loudest, longest, or last. What a refreshing thread.
