Trouble w/ Encore installation

Post by svh » Tue Oct 24, 2006 12:29 pm

I have read and printed out the excellent, detailed instructions for installing Encore Pro, but am still having a problem. I get through to starting the installation, it says it is doing so, then I get an error that reads: "The installer was unable to start the MSDE SQL server."

I have windows XP and SP2, with the firewall set to off.

Any advice? I'm dying to see what's on my card!

PS: I got the foreign card reader, and haven't even gotten to the part about installing the driver, but know NOT to use the one that came with the card reader.

PPS: I plugged in the card reader before noting that I shouldn't. What will that do to my process, since I plugged it in w/ no driver installed?
Thanks!

Net framework

You need to have Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 installed BEFORE installing EnCore. I don't know what source or version of EnCorePro you have, but you need .NET Framework to access the MS SQL server that will be created.

Hope this helps.

Darn it! I so wanted to manage this myself, but I guess I'll have to wait for my husband to get home, since I have no idea what the .net thing is! Thanks for trying!

Encore

Hey I too, have copied everything I could while waiting for my order. I do not know why the PC does not recognize the CD...

I wanted to do this myself and have several programs but when inserted at least the installation started and I could follow through...I'll be watching.
Good luck

We finally got ours working by logging everyone else off (we have three separate users) and installing it as the administrator. I didn't do it, my husband did, but he said it worked fine then. It must be a problem to have multiple accounts on a computer. I suppose that wouldn't be the norm for an office computer?

svh,

Only adminstrator can do any changes to the computer, this is not an encore issue.

Multiple accounts keep the kids from adding things onto the computer, and each log in acount is like a file drawer of your own stuff, but you can't add programs and such. A pain, if you are the primary person, unless you have the pass word and go in as admin.

I can do this, I will do this.
