I haven't seen my sleep doctor for over 10 years. He discharged me saying my OSA was resolved, even though I've haven't found very much energy above what I had when I collapsed from it 11+ years ago. I always felt this sleep specialist was rather flagrant and off-hand about my disease. Like "tell me the symptoms, yep you have OSA, go have a sleep study". Study showed I had 83 AHI. So he prescribed CPAP set at 12.5. He recommended a supplier (who he admitted was a former patient, now friend). I got stitched up on a nasal mask by this guy which didn't suit at all...and then had to buy another $300 mask a month later (after the $2500 equipment I had just bought). Doctor cut my pressure back to 11 when I said my nose was flooding without checking the effect. When I said I was stilled tired, he said it must be due to other issues, but not the OSA. As far as I know he never checked for CSA. So I've felt exhausted since then and other GP doctors and psychiatrist I've seen have no answers to help. I keep searching for relief through herbal things, and now a new CPAP machine as a "what else can I try?" move. Main point here though is I find doctors (even specialists) don't take this condition seriously enough, they are either out of their depth or want to spend as little time explaining things, so they can move you on and make money from the next guy.

I have a friend who was also diagnosed with OSA. He was prescribed all sorts of solutions from dental devices to CPAP. He spent years on it all when some doctor finally decided he had blocked sinuses and he had his nostrils drilled out. He never had OSA. He now sleeps without aids and is fine. Ironically, he is a train driver here in Australia!

You need a new family doctor or a referral to a pulmonologist or neurologist - and be firm about wanting that. You need a new sleep study at the least now to know where your OSA stands and you very likely need C (or A-) pap that once in place, can be optimized to work well for you with the help of the experienced and knowledgable people here. But you need to take control and get treated, not let ? lazy people brush you off. Start your own new thread though when you have more news - better than leaving confusion in someone else's. I know people in Aus. with OSA who have had excellent treatment (and no denial). One place I'm familiar with is Monash Hosp. in Melbourne.
