Nasal masks bad for deviated septum?

I just read something on a page about CPAP mask choice that said nasal masks are not as good a choice if you have a deviated septum. Do you all agree?

Absolutely not. I have a very deviated septum and use a nasal mask quite well. I use a bit of coconut oil-based lip balm on my nares to insure a good seal.

I have used the Swift FX and currently use the Nuance. I like the Nuance better because it vents better; more downward than outward.

It probably depends on your individual anatomy.
Deviated septums are not all alike.
Trying stuff on is the only way to know.

No. I don't agree with it as a blanket statement without qualifying it.
I know too many people using nasal masks with deviated septums and doing quite well.
Perrybucsdad is on the top of that list. I had to just about break his arm twisting it to get him to at least try a nasal pillow mask.
Once he tried one there was no going back for him.

It depends on just how badly deviated the septum is and just how much air they can move through their nose and be comfortable.
Probably would also involve nasal musosa issues as well...which can happen to people even with or without septum deviation issues.

It's like everything else with cpap....comes with a huge YMMV sticker.

Pillow masks...but still nasal

Just telling it like it is, not looking for suggestions. I have a deviated septum and can not use anything nasal. It's just too much air thru my nares. I even tried the hybrid masks. with them most of the air is going thru the mouth, but it's still too much for the nares. Over the years, I've tried many different nasal masks and pillows, even the Nasal Aire I Prong CPAP Mask that looks like a big fat nasal cannula. the answer is full face or surgery. at age 68 i'm not having a painful surgery by choice, so my answer is full face.

maybe someday they'll come up with an implant or removeable cannula that can get past the septum.
