Let's talk VENTS and pillow masks. update

Post by Cardsfan » Fri Feb 23, 2018 12:13 pm

I have been using the P10 and love that the vent doesn't blow an air stream on my arm and wake me up. But, I have trouble with leaks. I am trying the Nuance Pro Gel nasal pillows mask but find the vent blows so hard it wakes me up blowing agains my skin or makes noise blowing against the covers. So that's a fail. I have my eye on the Brevida Nasal pillow mask and the Pilaro Q Nasal pillow. Both advertise diffusers on the vent. Can anyone compare how well the diffuser works before I spend some more money trying them. How do they compare to the Air stream vent on the p10?

I tried the Brevida for a few nights, and as I recall the venting was very diffuse and quiet. It wasn't the reason I went back to the Nuance Pro gel; I get a better seal with the Nuance. As for the vent being noisy at times - yes, it wakes me if I let it blow onto the bed pillow. I sleep close enough to the edge of my pillow that if I roll too far on that side, the air vents into open space above the bed.

The diffusers on the F & P masks will work just about as well as the diffused vents on the P10.
Close enough probably and certainly more diffused than the Nuance pillows.

Give me a little bit and I have a Pilairo Q I can hook up and do a side by side comparison to the P10 vent with the diffuser venting.

I can't seem to find my Brevida a the moment (was looking for it just the other day for a different reason).

Okay...I tested both the P10 and Pilairo with the diffuser...pretty much the same vented air feeling at my pressure of 7 cm.
If I get my hand more than 2 inches away from either mask....can't feel the venting at all.
Have to get my hand/finger about an inch from the vents to feel anything..with either mask.
Looks like the Pilairo is comparable to reducing the venting like the P10 does. I am pretty sure the Brevida did the same thing or else I wouldn't have tried it as long as I did.

If you are on the fence about which one...I suggest trying the Brevida...it at least has 2 sizes available where the Pilairo is one size fits all and I found it a bit annoyingly too big to suit me.

As Pugsy said, the vent diffusion of the Brevida works just as well as the P10, but with a possible downside that the vent is just downstream from the swivel joint, so if that were to get aimed towards your face, you might feel it. I've been using the Brevida alternately with the P10, and it will likely help with your leakage since it seals around the nose and is stable for side sleeping. You'll have to fiddle with it a bit to get it sealed without pulling up on the underside of you nose, as there is rubber/silicone up under between the nostrils and it can cause a bit of soreness if it is pulled up too tight (on the P10, there's nothing there, pillows rest up against the nostrils). In all, you trade a "tad" of comfort for a "tad" of seal.

I just tried the Brevida this week. I was amazed at how good a job the diffuser did. It was so quiet, the quietest mask I've tried. I also liked the way it sat around the tip of my nose.

However, I had high leaks with it and when I took it off in the morning, the tip of my nose HURT! I had nasal surgery last August and I think I have residual sensitivity.

I went back to the Nuance Pro, which has a very low leak rate for me and is gentler on my nose. If only I could keep the strap on the back of my head! Apparently I have slippery hair! :D

Hope it works better for you!

Re: Let's talk VENTS and pillow masks. UPDATE- SUCCESS WITH BREVIDA

Post by Cardsfan » Mon Mar 05, 2018 8:55 am

UPDATE- After a few nights of using my new Brevida pillow mask, I can say it is a success. I really like it. I think it's my new favorite mask. The air diffuser works great, I barely feel the exhaust. Similar to the P10 exhaust. But what I really like is the headgear is adjustable, and the short hose has a swivel, 2 things the P10 lacks.
