changed clock to help with compliance

Post by Michelesleeps » Thu Feb 08, 2018 9:52 pm

I tend to sleep 6 hrs at night and then take a 3 hr nap during day. I'm trying to change this habit. But meanwhile it's a problem with compliance (I'm new and I take mask off while sleeping without knowing). My data uploads at noon. If Im napping during the noon hour then some of the time counts toward the previous nite and some to the new nite. So I changed my clock on the resmed 10 airsense through the clinical menu to be 3 hours earlier. That way if I have a bad compliance nite I can be sure to sleep the appropriate nap hours to add to my hours from the previous night. I'm essentially uploading at 3pm instead of noon. Has anyone done this?

For me compliance was 4hrs/night. I worked night shift and went to bed around 9am and sleepy until around 5 pm. My machine doesn't upload itself, but I had no problems with compliance.

Usually, compliance (from an insurance point of view) is four hours. I don't get why this would be necessary. This is no requirement for four contiguous hours.

Note that as long as you're reasonably consistent, you'll have enough hours each day.

well my nap isn't always consistent. Sometimes it's just an hour. So I'm happy now that I can adjust the number of hours in my nap for compliance based on how bad the night was.

changing times is fine. You also may need to add layers, to make it harder to get the mask off while half asleep. Try a chin band, or anything else you can think of. The mask has to be on, for you to get use to the machine and obviously to treat apnea.

Given that you are able to change the time it seems you may be using a machine other than a Respironics. (It would help if you filled out your profile with machine and mask information as a minimum. Without it we have no accurate idea of what you are talking about) AFAIK - at least in the case of recent generations of ResMed machines, all periods of use within the 24 hour period between noon to noon are concatenated into a single reported time of use. e.g. use between 10pm and 4 am (6 hours use), use again from 8 am to 11 am (3 hours use), total reported usage 9 hours (more than twice the typical compliance requirement). As long as the first period of use starts after noon on day 1 all periods of use occurring up to noon day 2 will be reported as a single total for that 24 hour period.
If you download and use SleepyHead you will see what I mean (as long as your unknown machine can be read by SH). In SH you will find a report page titled "Statisics" that shows this in a format that should satisfy most as a compliance report.

I changed the clock too. Not for compliance, but because I prefer to see my data per "night" even though my night is shifted and goes past noon.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Some machines start their new day at 12pm, so it can mess with nap times.

Are you a member of Congress? This is like cutting a foot off the top end of your blanket and sewing it to the bottom so the blanket is long enough to cover your toes.

If you are unconsciously removing your mask, try one of these solutions:
1---wear a cap/beanie over the headgear
2---tape the mask to your face
3---wear mittens to bed, or tape your fingers
4---pin headgear to your hair-(use lots of bobby pins)

I change the clock when travelling across time zones. However, I don't think it really does anything.
