Warning! - beware hospital masks for CPAP

Post by dsm » Fri Oct 20, 2006 6:00 pm

Folks, this is a preliminary warning that just occured to me after reading one of the posts here re the possible failure of a non-rebreathing valve in someone's mask.

There are a number of masks that appear from time to time on the various Auction sites.

Whilst I haven't got all the info on this just yet, be aware that a hospital mask designed to work with a ventilator, may not be the right choice to use on a cpap machine.

Hopefully some of our hospital employee members can comment on this.

I actually have one safe example in my hands at the moment. It is a ResMed Hospital Full Face Mask & was purchased from an on-line auction. In the case of this mask it states on the package that it is for CPAP or BiLevel therapy and it does appear to have the rebreathe valve. Some other masks may not so be careful.
