water damaged bi-pap

Post by springman946 » Sat Feb 03, 2018 5:52 pm

hello I have a little issue i nee to get resolved as soon as possible. the other day my mom went to get my bi-pap machine from my house and bring it to me while I was in the hospital well she forgot to empty the water chamber and my machine is ruined due to water damage I went to turn on my bi-pap machine so I could go to sleep and when I discovered the water in the machine. I freaked out. I called my home care provider and they told me that i owned the machine of course it has the 2 year warranty but I guess water damage is excluded from that anyway. my old home care provider said i was a no longer their customer and now that i get my supplies through J&L medical I need to call THEM which I did and j&L told me that They could not do anything for me because it was not their machine so how do I fix this problem and geta new machine and yes I do have a back up machine that I am using for now I am at home now and no longer in the hospital

P.S can I get insurance for water damage

Your post is unclear as to whether you're at home now or still in the hospital.
This has been a problem for many years with users and their machines. I was under the impression that the manufacturers had figured out how to prevent the water from getting into the machines.
You could try to position the machine so that the air outlet is pointing downward to get all the water out.
Then, try using something like a hair dryer (pointing it into the opening) to dry out the insides. Don't use a high heat.....just mostly air.
Then, try it again after it's had a sufficient amount of time to dry out. In the past, some people have had some luck in getting them to work again.

If it still doesn't work, contact:

and see if they can help.

Call the machine’s manufacturer and ask for assistance. Contact any homeowners’ insurance. Contact any healthcare insurance. Last option is to open your wallet and buy a new machine.

Yeah, no.

Call acbio.com, and if that's too much, then ask around on the forum, others may be able to help with considerably less than new prices on a gently used machine.

I understand most will refurbish them for a minimal fee. I believe the DME has to return them however and that seems a problem for you. Contact manufacturer anyway and see what they say. There are companies that do repairs for about $200. Google and see.

No need to Google. The name of the authorized repair place has already been mentioned (at least) twice in this thread.
Factory authorized for both P/R and ResMed.
