Start pressure setting

I just bought a travel machine, an airstart 10, brick as you call it. My main rx setting is max 9cm, but i cant find anywhere where they say anything about the start pressure. 4 or 5?, please explain what it affects. I did a search but couldnt find info

I'm not sure you even have an auto machine so give all the info you can on it - e.g. a REF # on the bottom, etc.

Its not an auto machine, just a cpap.

My airsense 10 has a start pressure of 5, my airstart 10 came at 4. I am curious why the difference, and if i should put both at 5, and basically what difference does it make.

4 is just the default from the factory. All ResMed machines come from the factory set to factory defaults for whatever model it is and then it is supposed to be set by the equipment supplier.

Just go in and change it if you want it to start at 5 or whatever you want to use as a fixed pressure.

The AirStart 10 most likely has the same combination for getting into the clinical setup menu area as the AirSense 10.
ResMed uses the same thing on all models. So while this says AirSense/AirCurve the buttons and dials are the same and the combination is the same.

It's going to be very similar to the AirSense 10 manual except it has limited data and no heated hose options.

Yes, i can set it. I just dont understand what difference it will make. Will 5 seat my mask better?

Some users feel like they aren't getting enough air at 4cm. I ran at 4cm for months without any problems and then I came here and read that it is better to set the pressures closer to what stops you from having OSA and such.
I don't know if your mask will seat better, does it leak?

There's not all that much difference between 4 and 5...unlikely to make a big difference in mask fit just between 4 and 5.
Now if the start pressure was say 10 then yeah probably would make for better fit.

You need to set this "travel" machine at whatever your other machine is doing most of the time though. Don't set it a lot lower than what you are using on your other machine.
What are your settings on the AirSense 10 CPAP machine (what you show in your profile)?

Thanks. I will set it at 5. I really dont understand why a cpap would have an adjustable starting pressure, it will ramp up to the max pressure anyway. Im probably overthinking it. Thanks for the help everyone.

My settings on my airsense is 5&9. I need to set it to 10.8 for my full face mask when i need it. I get good results with those settings. I know i should have got an autosense, but my supplier had this one waiting for me and at the time i didnt know the difference.

Don't confuse the ramp adjusting from the starting pressure up to your all night pressure and a real auto adjusting pressure machine.

Your AirSense 10 CPAP...isn't auto adjusting at all but it does have ramp where you can start the machine at 5 and have it ramp up to 9 or 10.8.
The AirStart 10 CPAP is going to be the same way...you can use ramp if you wish but you need to set the machine like your other machine.

And if your all night pressure is around 9 or 10...I would use that pressure for mask fitting.

Thank you. I am feeling much better with cpap, so i wanted a travel/backup machine, so that got me thinking about this. I didnt have much to spend so the airset fit nicely into my plans. I should be all set. Thanks.
