Why is there a baffle in the humidifier tank?????

Post by curtcurt46 » Wed Oct 18, 2006 10:29 am

I just received a new humidifier tank for my integrated remstar humidifier. The new tank was just like my old one except it now has a baffle that snaps into the tank just below where it connects to the pap. I am not sure why respironics has added the baffle. Maybe it's to keep water from splashing into the pap. Does anyone know the reason for the baffle.

To baffle you....

How old was your old one? Are you sure the baffle wasn't missing out of your other one?

I'm sure it's partially to keep water from splashing back into the machine and maybe to diffuse the airflow..

My old one was maybe 22 months old.
I believe it was brand new in plastic when I got it. If it came with a baffle back then, maybe the RT didn't pull out of the box when we put together. I like you believe it's to keep water out of the machine. I could not tell any difference in performance from earlier nights.

For those who have had their humidifier for a while the baffle does come separately, it just snaps into the water reservoir. It goes inside the water tank where the air come out of the CPAP.

I know this doesn’t help answer your question, but if you get a new humidifier you might check that it includes the baffle.

Thanks,
That pretty well confirms what the baffle is for.

I find it really difficult to empty the tank with the baffle when traveling and the baffle really irritates me. It comes out easily. I only put an inch or two of water in the tank and have never come close to splashing water in the machine. I am happy that they made the baffle removable.

Assuming that yours is like mine, I normally pour water out of the hose port. That always leaves a little bit in the humidifier so I turn it around and pour the rest out of the intake port. It just sort of goes around the edges of the baffle on its way.

What does this baffle look like? I don't have anything removable in my tank. I can't find it at cpap.com either.

Thanks Linda! I have that but I didn't know you could remove it. I followed the instructions given to me here...'never take the tank apart!'
