Waitg Sleep Test Score----Prob Central---What Machine?

Had sleep test 11 days ago, no scoring yet. I think they will score me w/sleep apnea, probably mostly central, not obstructive. I'm guessing if that is the case, I may need the ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV ($3000), rather than some basic machine. I think this because my father & several siblings have, or had, similar problems, so it must be inherited?

Guess I'm jumping the gun a little, but I figure the insurance company will try to stick me w/cheapest possible machine and I need to be ready to stand up for myself.

Any advice?

Wait until you get the sleep study results before worrying about the model of machine that will be needed.

If you have documented need for a specialty machine like the ASV...you may have a few more hoops to jump over to get it but insurance will eventually have to pay.

The sleep study you had...was it in a sleep lab or a home sleep study?
If a home sleep study did you wear something around your chest or mid section?

It was in the sleep clinic, 32 (36?) electrodes on head/face/legs, 2 straps around chest & stomach, oximeter on finger, infrared cameras on me all night, etc. I "slept" for 6+ hrs and they said they had plenty of data to score it. The tech said (wink, wink, nod) that from what they saw I will need some kind of machine---they are forbidden to talk about diagnosis, so I did not press.

I'm guess mine will not be obstructive since I seem to have quite a family history of it (undiagnosed). I've googled enough to know that central is the hardest to treat. You are probably right about my insurance company; they have been more than fair in the past. From my working days, I never go into negotiations w/o a lot of prep.
