apnea dec17Hey all I havent been feeling good for a long time is basically my story. I also suffer from anxiety/depression. I recently was put threw a sleep test and got a call right away to come in as soon as possible for results. I cant remember them off hand but I do remember some. I stopped breathing 116 per hour on average. My blood oxygen at one point dipped as low as 46% and my case was considered severe. For the time being, until they get in the machine my plan covers and see what fixed pressure I will need, the clinic has me on a Resmed airsense 10 for her set to 8. I will attach my graph but so far I think it looks like a large improvement. I also dont know how to read this very well either so I am hoping some of you maybe able to interpret the screen shoot from sleepyhead.

Hi - why are you on a fixed pressure vs auto?
Your link doesn't... could you look at these\

My medical coverage will only cover fixed line pressure machines not auto. https://imgur.com/a/3VJpg That is a image of my stats from today/last night

If your recollection is correct, your OSA is terrible so it makes sense that any treatment will help you.
The data you posted shows that you are set to auto (the machine will adjust as it thinks necessary) with a minimum of 8. Your AHI is much improved. I hope you are feeling better. Please keep updating this thread with your data.

The machine you are using is an autoset. The insurance company pays the dealer the same amount regardless of the type of machine. Ask for an autoset. The insurance company does not care what machine you get . The dealer wants to give you the cheapest unit they can.Schweb wrote:My medical coverage will only cover fixed line pressure machines not auto. https://imgur.com/a/3VJpg That is a image of my stats from today/last night

Re: New to Site New to CPAP. Graph info feedback
I will get a copy of the exact diagnoses was. I remember exactly though 116 per hour and oxygen level 46% at certain points in the night. I would go on for a long time wondering in the day time how people were able to do the things they did without having to take a break or a nap and wondering or thinking something is seriously wrong with me. I cant notice that much difference yet but this is day 4 of being on a machine. Yes the machine I am using is a autoset it is a temporary machine to see what from the data what line pressure I will need once they get the fixed line pressure one in. Basically what to set it to. They wanted me on a machine though asap.
I really dont know if I feel like arguing with them to be honest. They did show me the guidelines and it did say that so I am thinking about just shelling out the 899 CAD online for one I found. That was the best deal in canada

It's important to have the auto option... and auto machines can be set to plain cpap if wanted at some time, but cpaps do not ever do auto, so hold out for what you want and don't let the dealers tell you something that benefits them but cheats you (and is untrue).

You are in Canada? Is that correct? If so, what province?

Exactly which brand and model machine did you find online in Canada for $899?
Which model will your insurance cover? How much is your portion if any?
Each province has different rules and regulations and I am not at all familiar with Sask and barely familiar with Ontario and that's because a bunch of Ontario members have explained their rules or I wouldn't know that much.
I looked at your report and your pressure does seem to move around a lot. Might be REM related or might be related to sleeping on your back.
You can use a fixed cpap machine but you will need to use higher pressures all night to cover those maybe REM or on you back sleep times...or let the events slide if you want to use a fixed lower pressure.
You can get good therapy with a fixed cpap machine (if that's all your province will give you) but it will come with the limitation of having to use higher pressure all night or letting some events slide if you use a lower pressure all night.
Some people do well on fixed pressures but some who need variable pressures for whatever reason find that a machine that will auto adjust works best for them.
You can make a fixed pressure machine work though. Maybe not totally ideally but it can work. Up to you if you want to try to get apap capable machine or not or if you feel up to the hassle that might be involved given your provincial restrictions (whatever they are).

Re: New to Site New to CPAP. Graph info feedback
I am looking to get a Resmed airsense autoset 10 heated hose and such. Model number is 37403. I am not sure yet what model the gov will be covering or giving me. They will cover 100% of fixed pressure but 0% of autoset. I just know they only cover fixed. I will find out in about 3 weeks. I think the plan they have for me is to use this one for three weeks at an auto settting. Get my numbers. Then take the machine in. They will set it to a fixed setting with those numbers and send me home for another three to see how I do. Then or that will determine what to set the fixed machine I am covered for.
Re: New to Site New to CPAP. Graph info feedback
What I would do if it were me would be follow the provincial plan and see how I ended up on fixed pressure with whatever they decide it should be and then decide if I wanted to buy my own machine or not. A lot would depend on which fixed cpap machine they would be supplying...is it the brick or the full data fixed cpap machine.
It might be that with a more optimally set pressure (instead of the wide open settings you are using now) that the machine wouldn't have the need to go so high so the wide variation need might be lessened. You can buy your own at any time and you might get lucky and do very well with the fixed cpap model they will provide at no out of pocket expense to you. At some point you may end up wanting a back up machine of your own and at that time you can always get an apap capable machine if you want to.
If you go that route be sure and check secondwindcpap.com as they will ship to Canada and they have gently used (low hour) or new open box machines that might cost you a little less than what you found for $899 with your Canadian supplier plus no hassle with the RX thing (if you have a hassle with the Canadian online supplier).

Re: New to Site New to CPAP. Graph info feedback
I have a motorhome that I use almost every weekend. I hate to package up my CPAP so I decided I'd like a second machine - yeah, $1100.00. Too expensive. I searched through CraigsList and found one for $200.00. Lots of people have them and refuse to wear them. I got mine still in the original packaging. And then I cleaned it well with vinegar and water solution and used a new mask. If it's working properly, your breath never reaches the hose between the CPAP and the mask's tubing.Schweb wrote:For the time being, until they get in the machine my plan covers and see what fixed pressure I will need, the clinic has me on a Resmed airsense 10 for her set to 8.
Both of mine use a heated hose. I got a COLD shower one night in my motorhome when water condensed inside the hose. I moved and the water poured into my face. Also, I experienced gurgling from water that had pooled in a low spot on the hose. I will only use one with a heated hose.

Hi Schewb,
I agree with the others, find out what machine you can get before you put out $1000 of your own. The Autoset is not going too high with pressure. You could probably do fine on a fixed pressure until you find an auto for a good deal.

Using weight loss, general exercise, and tongue/throat exercises I managed to get my AHI down to approx 5.
Not using a machine currently.
