OT Poll: When should I call doctor

Post by USMCVet » Fri Dec 15, 2017 7:21 pm

I know people love polls and I'm horrible at knowing when to call Doctor lol.

Sunday I coughed and it felt like a ripping or tearing happened on left side and I made it to couch and collapsed from the pain. I kept checking and didn't see a bruise so I figured I was fine. Pain wise it was probably at least an 8 if not 9.

It's gotten better as far as getting out of bed or chair doesn't hurt but still is very painful to cough or sneeze . It seems to hurt most at bottom of rib cage. It's still very tender go touch but still no bruise.

So tell me what you would do.

I have heard of many cases of tearing a muscle or other tissue between the ribs with a sneeze. It will get better, or if not then call the Dr.

That's what I'm thinking, how long do I give it though?

I usually see the doctor 45 minutes before it quits hurting on its own.

Mine goes away as soon as I get to doctor lol. Or I call that stupid triage line and they say to drive 45 minutes to ER and I go for nothing. But when I don't go when they say I end up regretting it. So I can never win so my fate is in all your hands lol

I usually wait until it stops hurting then mention it at the next Dr appointment and ask if I should have come in. Now, that is what I do, what I would recommend is wait a day or two unless the pain is so extreme as to construe an emergency, then go in yesterday.

Definitely go to the doctor soon.

I have what appears to be a pinched nerve that my primary care physician thought was strained muscle around my right ribs. When it pinches following a period of poor posture, the pain stops me in my tracks and leaves me speechless and hunched over. I really have been putting off a visit to the back specialist for too long. Don't be like me!

No need for me to vote I guess having broke my ribs twice at work, having a heart attack at work, never went to the DR or took time off from work. Had a heart attack at home, even then I waited 3 days before going to the ER. BTW: I don't think it helped. That's just how I roll! Jim

I would have made the poll shorter just in case! You might not be around to read it... On the Rib thing, I now have one that regrew like a antler. Still pokes me when I bend over, kind of like my left big toe, hit the bed post, now it's in the "Live Long And Prosper" mode permanently.

If you have been suffering with this since last Sunday, you have waited too long. Go now!

I have been also getting some painful muscle spasms on other side and on chest lately lol. When I went to cardiologist I mentioned it to nurse. She asked where and I told her . She didn't ask how bad it hurt or I would have told her it stops me dead in my tracks and I try to contort body until it stops lol.

So I called the nurse hotline number. First time I was on hands free in truck on way home from work. Refused to talk to me at all while I was driving. Called back when I got home and was told to take lots of ibuprofen over weekend and if it still hurts Monday to call for appointment.
