How many masks & XPAPs do you have?

Post by frapilu » Mon Oct 16, 2006 1:18 pm

I've been reading this forum and I'm amazed when I hear of people buying 2 or 3 masks at a time so they have variety. I've read about some people buying an extra XPAP just in case.

Perhaps it's because I'm in Canada where all this stuff costs a fortune but I'm curious.

So, how many masks and XPAPs do you own/use?

France

p.s. I have an HC405 and I'm trialing an HC432 (with a note from my doctor so that the insurance will cover it because it's $275 here and I can't afford to buy that myself). I have one old Respironics RemStar Pro CPAP with CFlex (that's not Pro2 but the older Pro that gives nothing but compliance data). I have to last another 2 years with it before I'm allowed to get one other XPAP.

I have 1 machine, remstar auto. and 3 masks, Hybrid for every day and one for backup and a comfort curve (bought used) that was going to be my backup but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

I have one machine and two masks...plus one I am working on myself.
I'm fairly new to treatment, though.

I probably have 15 or 16 masks in my dud drawer, they are all nearly brand new masks, only worn 1 or 2 nights. They were either uncomfortable, noisy or offered poor sleep.

I currently have 3 machines, a classic RemstarPro, a classic Remstar Auto w/cflex, and a new M series Auto.

Ive had as many as 8 autopaps at one time, many people here now own my old ones. If I see something new come out or a major improvement to existing firmware I buy it and sell the old one.

Just a Few, A Remstar Pro 2, from the DME, not sure who owns it.
And two Remstar APAP.s (All Machines are Tanks) One is new one is used.

2 matching HH units, 7 masks, 3 of them are backups in case something breaks. We are ready for the long haul. In the next year I may get two more, but for now we are in a holding pattern. Jim

It's just the kind of guy I am, I plan ahead. I have three cars too, all 1978 Fords, two are fairmonts. (Not a Pretty Sight). No if I mow the lawn , I won't find any more hidden in the grass, and my porch falling down, never killed more than 4 dogs.

I technically have three masks. Two are the ComfortFull 2 (one small and one medium) and a ComfortCurve. I've been primarily using the small ComfortFull 2 mask.

I only have one machine... a Bi-PAP that I absolutely love. (And the heated humidifier.)

One Machine: the RemStar Auto (not M Series)
Masks: Ultra Mirage Full Face (IMHO, the best full face mask out there), the HC431 (which I HATED with a passion), Activa (IMHO, the best nasal mask), the Breeze w/ nasal interface (not pillows), and my Aura/Headreset/Twilight NP (which I adore). It's amazing what we'll go through just for sleep, eh?

Machine: M-Series Auto
Mask: Headrest
No humidifier
On the hose since 2005.

And she is a poor, starving college girl!

I have 3 masks, but just barely:

I have a ComfortLite 2, which is almost like 3 masks in one, although I have only tested the nasal pillows and the direct seal. The direct seal wins, so far.

I have a second CL 2 coming, so that I may leave it at my mother's home and not have to pack it up. (I'm there once a week for one-two nights.)

And, just last Friday I received the Hybrid that I bought used. I wanted to try it because mouth taping is starting to be a problem with my skin. Even an occasional break would be good.

I have one Compact S8, straight CPAP but would like a second flow generator/humidifier for my mother's home--but not necessarily an S8, although I like it quite well.

Now, in honor of our Canadian friends, I should think that Snoredog would sell his discarded ones at half-price or lower. Someone could take them over the border, package it quickly, and send it off through the Canadian post (if they are not on strike.)

Birdshell,

Good idea about Snoredog's discarded masks but I can just see someone trying to get them across the border. I can't help giggle though because I work for the Canadian post so it was funny to see you refer to it

Shhhh, frapilu. Don't tell anyone; I figure that if one were to take a single mask or maybe 2 across at a time, customs would not necessarily be any the wiser.

I cannot think that an extra used mask (not packaged) would be TOO suspect! Nor would I feel that I was breaking a law...would I be? I respect the law, but in this case if illegal, it is stupid and sometimes one just has to ignore the truly stupid.

(And, don't tell anyone that I live near the border and grew up in a border town. I have made more than one trip across the border to post letters. Shhhhh!)

That is really too funny that you work for the postal service! Of course, I had no idea.

Not a problem getting masks into Canada from the U.S. I have ordered 2 from cpap.com and there was no duty or taxes at the border on them.

I have 1 cpap and 3 masks. An Activa which I love, but I mouth leak a lot. A Hybrid which was a $175 mistake and a FlexiFit 431 which is working very well for me.

Sorry, forgot this years masks, January to October:

old Adam Circuit - scrapped for parts

Comfortlite 2 - I use it about once a week, to keep it in shape.

UMFF - hurt my teeth, sold it.

HC431 - Way too hot, sold it.

Hybrid #1 - Use it every night, but I have an extra mouthpiece/pillows
that I alternate, while the other mouthpiece gets completely dry.

Hybrid #2 - You can't have too many of a good thing.

CPAP is my hobby. (that's sick, isn't it)...

+ Aussie heated hose.
