Looking for home test info

I did a search but didn't find too much (please post links though if I missed something). I'm curious about home sleep apnea testing; what products are available, what's recommended, any experiences folks here have had with them.

I've had overnight studies (last one showed mild to moderate OSA), and am interested in trying a self study if viable.

You can get a cheaper home sleep study through insurance, if you have it. That is--cheaper than lab testing which is rediculously high. But insurance will pay for that too.. if you have the right insurnance.

For “run of the mill” OSA, home sleep studies are just as good as in lab studies. They have to go through extensive FDA and Medicare approval.

Just because they cost less does not mean they are inferior. In some cases they are even better than in lab studies because the test subject is more likely to sleep more in their normal sleeping conditions instead of the artificial conditions of the lab.

Edit: My first test was an at-home test, using ApneaLink https://www.resmed.com/us/en/healthcare ... k-air.html which I got through my insurance. Picked it up at the hospital sleep lab and took it home to use. It showed that I had sleep apnea, so I had a follow-up overnight sleep study. It was easy to use and gave good information.

Kaiser uses the Itamar Watch Pat. You can look it up. That's how I was tested, and it was pretty good overall. Probes on two fingers attached to an armband (now the arm unit is even smaller) were not at all intrusive. That test had 9 channels of data. Of course it can't measure brain waves or limb movement, but that's not particularly necessary for simple OSA.

Mine was the same using the Apnealink too. Blue Cross federal employee plan would only do the home study, then the overnight.
