Amara View: Full-Face or ...?

Post by QueSera » Sat Nov 25, 2017 4:02 pm

CPAP Therapy is a continuously evolving game for me. Anything that works doesn't seem to work for long.

I'm trying the Amara View again, which I gave up because I couldn't stop the noisy leaks. I've lost a bit of weight, so I tried refitting it this morning, with a newly-cut liner from lightweight fleece I had on hand. All went well, so I ran the mask fit on my ResMed AirSense 10, after changing the mask setting to full-face.

Not good. I felt no leaks and heard none, but I got the big red frowny face. I changed the setting back to pillows and ran mask fit with my beloved Dreamwear, and it came up smiley (even though my Sleepyhead report shows large leaks every day.) I kept the setting on pillows and ran mask fit with the Amara View again, and voila: smiley face.

If I use it this way - Amara View with machine set to pillows - will my results be somehow less reliable? I do get some weird results - I’m having another sleep study next weekend - but this is something I should be able to work out on my own, with your help.

Thanks.
It's always something. Roseanne RoseannaDanna

I think all the mask/pillows choice does is use a different figure for the 'calculated' leak rate of the delivery system you are using. I could very well be wrong though.

I think I remember Pugsy telling us that you don't get the frowny face until you're in large leak territory for 30% of the time, so it's a fairly useless guideline.

Much better to set your machine for the mask you're actually using, install Sleepyhead software, and check your data there.

Good luck!

Cheating your mask settings doesn't help you it just masks the results. Jim
