Rozerem for insomnia

Post by Snoredog » Sun Oct 15, 2006 2:58 pm

Anyone try Rozerem yet? It claims to be non-narcotic and low risk of abuse. It works sorta like melatonin. Adverse side effects are thought to be low.

It's gotten some good reviews on Webmd and elsewhere, they also have a pretty good website which explains how it works. OTC melatonin works for me, but you might want to check it out:

Since the risk of abuse is low, doctors might be more inclined to prescribe it. It can be used every night or just ocasional use, I have no idea what it costs.

Snoredog,
My sleep doc gave me about a weeks worth of samples. She said the patients she has given it to say it takes about 4 nights to start working really well and most have had good results. She thought since I really don't want to be on any sleep med but still wake up alot even with CPAP that Rozerem would be good for me to try since it has so few side effects. I tried one and woke up through the night more than usual.

Years ago before I even knew I had apnea I tried Melatonin. It helped me fall asleep faster but didn't help me stay asleep. After a while the Melatonin began to have a reverse effect--making me feel jittery and like I had to move my feet and legs (a bit like RLS I suppose). Quit taking it. If Rozerem is similar maybe that's the reason it didn't work for me. It may work great for others.

Rozerem

Rozerem (ramelteon) is a melaton (MT1 and MT2) receptor AGONIST, not an ANTAGONIST. It enhances the MT1 and MT2 receptor affinity for binding with melatonin. It does NOT decrease binding or blockade these receptors.

Born Tired's comments are exactly what I had read about Rozerem. It will help you to get to sleep, but doesn't work well on sleep maintainance.
Everyone is different and perhaps you need to try it to see how it works for you.

My doc prescribed me ambien cr said it helps you go to sleep fast and keep you asleep. Well it does keep me asleep once I get there but it takes me about an hour or so to get there which I dont think it should take that long.
