Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
Please help: I bought a brand new AirSense 10 For Her online. I returned it because the breathing was "too fast" and actually had a post on here. Sure enough they found it to be defective. Now I have the clicking/knocking noise coming from humidifier at exhale and inhale. I have the humidifier set down to "2" with temperature of 73 degrees. I had the humidity at 4 and I was getting water in the hose. Is the humidifier defective? Or do I need to change humidity levels? I felt that at 76 degrees it was too hot, but to get rid of the clicking/knocking noises which way and what numbers should I turn it to? Thank you for any help.

Water in the hose does not mean the humidifier is defective Make sure the machine is lower than your mattress. Use a hose lift system.Use a hose cover. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/arden- ... ystem.html . Water in the hose will make noise.Luthie2006 wrote:Please help: I bought a brand new AirSense 10 For Her online. I returned it because the breathing was "too fast" and actually had a post on here. Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
Thank you LSAT: I thought, though, that clicking noises in the humidifier of the AirSense Auto Set 10 is very common. I keep hearing a knocking/clicking upon inhaling. Isn't this a defective humidifier? Thank you.

Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
My machine doesn't make any clicking or knocking noises. If you have humidity set at 4, the water in the hose could be "rainout," meaning it's condensing in the hose. For my Airsense I never set the humidity above 2 for that very reason. The clicking and knocking implies that you still have a defective machine.
I was thinking about you yesterday, oddly enough, because I had an odd experience with my Airsense. I was asleep and my pressure went up and I woke up, and it seemed like the machine was choosing my breathing rate for me, which was so incredibly odd that I turned the machine off then back on again. I am wondering if this machine has a function where, when we are asleep, it either matches our pace or sets the pace and then locks into it, and that function was what was wrong with your machine at the start. Now that you have it back, are you 100% sure they sent you your original machine back?

Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
Hello AMK: Supposedly they gave me the same machine back. I don't know what happened before, but I could not catch up with the breathing. When I asked them what they supposedly "fixed" they didn't give me a straight answer and said that they sent it out to their Warrantee Dealer. They want me to send it back again but I have to pay the postage each time. I hope your machine does not change the breathing on you again. Let me know how the machine works for you again and if that happens again. Are you sure you were not having an apnea and the pressure went up?
I am so frustrated with this machine having to possibly send it back again because of the clicking noises. I had the humidity set on 2, temperature at 74 and it sounded like there was a screwdriver hitting the machine each time I inhaled. Has anyone else had this problem before? I only have used it now for 4 days.
Thanks.

Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
If the noise can't be blame on water in the hose then there's something wrong with the machine.
Does the noise start immediately when you turn it on or does the noise come on a little later?
My first thought....you got a lemon.

Thanks Pugsy for chiming in: The clicking noise comes on later on, not when it is first turned on. How do I know if the clicking noise is caused from water in the hose? Would that make a knocking/clicking noise? If I hear it again tonight (it happens only when I inhale) then it goes back tomorrow night to the Internet company. If water is in the hose, would that cause a clicking Noise? There was water in the hose a few days ago and I turned the humidity level down to 3. Thank you.

Go up to the Search line and put in "rainout" and then do another search on "clicking". MANY discussions on both issues.
If there IS water in the hose (in a low spot) when the noise is heard, then it's rainout, and the air from the machine is having trouble getting past the water obstructing its path. If there isn't water in the hose, then it's the other problem, which has been reported many times before.
Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
Water in the hose can make all sorts of weird noises. I had a boatload of it last night myself. Clicking and gurgling and popping and really annoying noises....and yes, definitely knocking and actually shaking too.
If it comes on later in the night then it could very well be water condensing in the hose.
How to prevent water condensing in the hose..
1...lower the humidity setting so less water goes into the air
2...increase the hose air temp so that the air in the hose doesn't cool and release the moisture
3...increase the ambient bedroom air temp so that the air in the room doesn't cause the hose air to cool
4...use a hose cozy of some sort to help keep the air in the hose from cooling to the point of releasing the moisture and condensation happening
You get the idea. You gotta prevent Physics from happening.
I know you don't like the air to feel warmer and use the 73 degrees but depending on your bedroom ambient air temp that air in the hose is going to cool.
Oh...the people who tell you to have the machine lower than the mattress will help or prevent it....not really. All that does is maybe let the water run back into the humidifier but I am here to tell you that gravity was useless last night for me. It doesn't drain back into the humidifier due to the way the hose attaches to the humidifier for one thing. Even with my holding the hose totally vertical it wouldn't drain back into the humidifier.
Now the older models of machines...yeah, significant draining but not with these new machines and new/different connections for hose to humidifier.

Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
My humidifier clicks and pops often on inhale and exhale. Its an an Airsense 10 auto. I adjust it by gently pushing and tugging on it while its in in the machine. The goal is to slightly re position it. Always works, but you may not have the same issue. Good luck
Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
You might have the same problem I was able to fix on mine.
To test:
Press down firmly on the white latch while you're using the machine, water filled normally. Does it stop making the noise?
With the humidifier out and dry, lid closed, gently squeeze & release the lid while listening for noise from the corners on the latch/opening side of the humidifier.
If it looks clear that the corners are rubbing and making noise, note that almost no one else seems to have this problem -- so it seems like some of us are getting out-of-tolerance humidifiers that rub. Replacing it is probably the easiest solution.
I fixed mine by putting some "Nylo-Tape Friction Free Drawer Slide Tape" on the inside of the corners of the lid. This is a thin tape with a super-slippery back. It's totally silent now, and the tape isn't slipping out of place, though I suspect it eventually could. So just replacing the humidifier is probably your best long-term bet.

Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
Thank you everyone. Thank you Pugsy. So I should turn the temperature up to 76 and humidity level down to 2?
My room is 68 degrees and relatively cool. I just hope this is not a defective machine again. What are you doing to solve the knocking problem in your humidifier? This has not happened in my S-9 machine before, but I guess is common in newer machines.
The problem with testing it as "Justaguest" says it that it does not knock right away. I have to keep a sound-machine on because I have very noisy upstairs neighbors so I don't hear it right away. But is it best to keep the humidity level low and temp high? Thank you.

Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
If the problem is water in the hose (as my problem is) the you have to either warm up the air in the hose or reduce the moisture content of the air in the hose or a little bit of both.
I am warming up the air in the hose since my nose doesn't like less moisture in the air. I increased the hose air temp from 78 degrees to 86 degrees last night. I had some minor condensation issues so I plan to add a hose cozy on the short hose.
If the noise is water in the hose then it isn't a problem with the humidifier not working properly.

Re: Clicking/Knocking from AirSense 10 humidifier
So I had a similar noise the other night (actually morning when I was waking up). Mine was a clicking and it figure it is likley a flapper style check valve in the machine. Mine only did it for about 5 minutes though and has not done it since.
The other thing I was thinking it could be was the tank lid seal as it has the little plastic piece that half covers the outlet from the tank could be the noise too.
