Distilled water?

Does everyone use distilled water in humidifyer or can I use reverse osmosis water?

I use tap (drinking) water in the UK, I clean the humidifier with a mild solution of descaler about once every 3 months to remove a small amount of limescale.

We have two homes. At one home, I use filtered tap water - I haven't had any problems with buildup on that machine, but know that my decision could lead to it. At the other home, the tap water is terrible - there, I use distilled water. Use what works for you. Distilled water is preferred, but if you run out or it's too inconvenient, use what you have.

Or in a pinch you could make your own, just add two atoms of H to one of O, stir real fast until water forms. Jim

Been on treatment for over 10 years. You can use any water, so you don't have to stress about running out of distilled or taking carrying a gallon of distilled.

Over time, I've gone back to using distilled for the following reasons:
1. I can keep the jug right by my machine. I don't have to carry the tank to the nearest sink and back.
2. Tap water (from my source) leaves the residue mentioned
3. Tap water smells bad enough to wake me, if the tank runs low. During winter, it takes much more water for me and often the tank runs low or to empty in one night.
4. Tank lasts longer with distilled.

Even though I've switched back to distilled, I still use tap when traveling and also for a few nights in a row, if I run out of distilled.

I should have said, "In my opinion, using tap water from my source, using distilled water rather than tap water results in longer tank life, for me, in my experience."

I run distilled water mostly but if i am in a bind bottled water and clean out the tank so no minerals in the tank.
