I got a pm this morning telling to come and see the mess. Friends, you are only hurting yourselves by becoming more and more agitated by replying to this thread, you will never change XXX's ideas, he is what he is...........
He has alienated everyone, but there is no way we can reach through the computer and strangle him. You are only hurting yourselves, cool down and go do something else for awhile, he will still be here tomorrow (heaven forbid), but maybe you will have decided to ignore him or go elsewhere. The only thing we can change is ourselves, so please stop before someone has a stroke or heart attack. This forum has weathered MANY trolls over the years, perhaps (fingers crossed) we will again. Relax, forget about alphabet boy for now, after all this forum will still be here when you get back.
Cheers
Nan
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

We're beating our heads against the wall, trying to reason with him. It's obvious that he's got something going on and he's either 1) behaving this way on purpose to be an internet troll (he's damned good too); or 2) he truly has a mental health issue that none of us can do anything about.

Since Johnny has made it clear his position on this, we're left with only two reasonable options (as individuals):

1. Leave the forum. Call it quits. Give up, pack up our toys and go home.
2. Ignore him and hope that once he stops getting attention, he goes away.

The only way for #2 to be effective is if EVERYONE that posts here agrees and stops responding TO him. Correct his errors related to CPAP equipment, therapy, etc, but do not engage HIM in any way. He shoots back with his insults, name calling and rants - ignore it.

I personally vote for #2 but realize unless everyone else here is on board, it won't work.
Who's with me on this?
I've recognized 6-8 members of this board participating on Jason's board this past month.

I had already come to those conclusions/options but decided to post in agreement with you.
Maybe if all the "regulars" (longer-time members) would refrain from posting for some days, weeks or whatever, we could see what happens.
Hopefully he'll miss his village and find his way back. I doubt that his village is missing HIM.

You are brilliant. You have hit the nail right on the head. The problems in this forum come from Registered Guests who just do NOT know how to behave unless they are directly supervised, ie. moderated. Yet you want to point the finger elsewhere, that makes you part of the problem.

So the "regulars" cause this mess, scream for moderation hoping they can become a paid moderator. But I think Johnny is wise to this behavior. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the "regulars" were part of the recent Spam Attack and even this xxx mess, we see it was the "regulars" from years gone by doing the deleting of things they don't agree with and we know that most of the "regulars" do NOT have a Spam Button any longer.

Are we starting to see a pattern here?

.....Yes I am......Thank you for noticing

You have posted under 3 different names on this post....4937...Guest....Unregistered Guest...(AND, I think, under your Registered Name). Do you sleep well or do you have bad Dreams?

Unregistered Guests cannot delete posts under any circumstances for any reason. Now take your ball and go back to the playground. Yes theycan...under their "real ID"

You have been told on more than one occasion if you don't like it here go where it suits you and you can't make those snide remarks or start your very own forum where you can be the queen again. I don't take orders from "Unregistered Guests"

Your call

Unregistered guests should not be able to post...Unregistered guests are most likely registered guests that want to hide their real identities. Unregistered guests can cause havoc and no one knows who they are. Unregistered guests can change their name with every post and remain anonymous. Unregistered guests can fan the flames and are never blamed.
What is so sad is You obviously are not even faintly aware that YOU are also hiding your real identity.
I'm sure that "lsat" is aware that he's "hiding" his(presumably) real life identity. Everybody here that uses a made up name is doing that.

The difference that YOU don't seem to understand is that he's hiding behind a *consistent* 'made up identity', Only one person (presumably) posts as lsat, whereas any number of people can post as 'guest' or 'Unregistered Guest'. When 'guest' posts, nobody knows if the answer is good, or some nastyness (frequent from someone using 'guest') or terrible advice.... it's basically just noise.

That's a substantial difference.

All this "safe space" entitlement nonsense is the only thing that needs to stop! The rest is just life where nothing and nobody is perfect in this world. People need to learn to deal with the fact that offending others and taking offense is perfectly normal human behavior.

BTW - Although I quoted a troll and agree with everything she said EXCEPT her last statement, my post is directed at all those who keep complaining about the current (and typical) state of the forum.
But....what you are doing here is complaining about posts and trying to control people, the very thing that you claim to be against.

"Offending others and taking offense" may be "perfectly normal human behavior," but if allowing each individual to self-regulate free of any outside constraints actually worked in the real world, we wouldn't need police officers or jails. I don't understand why the idea of having a mod here is so triggering for some people.
*bingo*

I'm for not engaging with those that are just baiting/trolls. Fine, have a disclaimer about them in your posting signature, but as long as you engage with them in name calling and other OT exercises in futility, that makes them feel like they are being heard and are powerful. And that encourages them to stick around. If one just ignores these guys, they tend to just wander off, looking for other forums to disrupt. This is from years of using internet forums, where these guys come in, disrupt things as much as the forum users will allow, and then leave when they're ignored.

I'd like to see this be tried, anyways. Time will tell if it works. But my "ignore" list has grown bigger than I'd like at this point...although this gives me more peace of mind, every time I see one of these flame wars, I know that I'll see more. Ignoring these guys takes more self restraint, they are masters at baiting others, but it really does help.

Everyone knows that any member can post and then immediately post again under a new name, RIGHT??

That's what I did this morning when I posted as LotusFlower. It took 2 seconds and was easy. And there is no way to find out who is doing this. Only the Goodmans would know.

I saw that.
That guy is one weird dude. He totally lashed out and it wasn't called for at all.
If you don't tell him what he wants to hear you are a troll...I tangled with him only once and decided that he and I didn't speak the same language and he could go to the nice warm place for all I care.
I won't be trying to answer any of his questions anymore. Learned my lesson with that one.
Won't be long before he alienates everyone and no one will give him the time of day.

Depending of how he scuffs Jason's hide, I have seen some very clever treatment of unwelcome posts/posters.
I just give this one a bit more rope. I counted only eleven wraps . . .
