cervical collar recommendations

Post by nineteencats » Sat Oct 07, 2017 10:54 pm

For those of you who use a collar to keep your jaw closed, what type / brands do you use and like? Also any pointers / secrets / etc? I am not getting along with my chin strap and want to try the collar thing. Thanks -- 19C

I've started with the Futuro adjustable collar, bought it at Walgreens. You can adjust the chin height for comfort/effectiveness, and it has worked wonders, virtually eliminating my mouth breathing with the nasal pillows. I figure if I'm ever in the market again, I'll get a "fitted" one by measuring the height I have this one adjusted to.

It is a bit warm around the neck sometimes if you make it tighter than what I'll call "contact snug," I leave it loose enough to breath a little but still not move around if I turn over.

The local pharmacy told me this item "cannot" be dispensed without a prescription (OTC).
Nebraska?--who knows?
I asked my doctor for a prescription, and Medicare paid for it [what a markup!]
Otherwise, collars are available on the internet. Reasonably priced.

One thing to remember is that cervical collars start to sag after a while. I replace mine about every 4 months. When I put the new one on I'm surprised at how stiff it is.
