How long has it been?!

Post by Swordz » Sun Oct 08, 2006 7:56 pm

So, here I sit in my third sleep study in the last 2 years. I've come a long way from not knowing anything about OSA, to knowing exactly what happens at night and what I suffer from.

I have to get braces to correct my overbite, and that correction will take about a year. After that, I will have MMA surgery, with the surgery taking place sometime in late 2007.

I do apologize to all those I use to keep in contact with and the frequent updates I use to make here. I am 24 and trying to finally graduate college, so I am enrolled in 18 hours of class, 20 hrs workstudy, not to mention testing out of a class and GRE prep. Life is difficult and I don't have time to keep up w/ everything like I use to.

I am not sleeping any better from my Phase 1 surgery this summer (UP3, tonsils, GA, TR), but am hoping that at least my oxygen levels are better. I will know my sleep study results in 3 weeks and will definitely post. I have tried CPAP twice and can never tolerate it, so to those non-CPAP'ers, surgery is an option.

I hope everyone is doing well and hopefully this night goes decently well. Nitey nite kids!

Cory! Good to see you. We were thinking you had fallen off the face of the planet. Sorry you're not responding well to your phase I surgery...here's hoping you do better with the next one. And by the way, a busy life that includes school is no excuse... I'm still here. *Hugs!*

I thought you were having the GGA or Genioglossus Tongue Advancement instead of the UPPP?

Are you going to consider the GGA before the MMA or have they advised against that one? My understanding is Stanford is the only one doing it.

Your update

Post by kteague » Mon Oct 09, 2006 10:50 pm

So good to hear from you again. You must be very determined for you to be able to keep ramping up your school involvement even with all you are going thru. Look forward to one day hearing you say that the reason you haven't posted lately is you are sleeping like a baby at what used to be your computer time. Hang in there and do keep us updated as your time allows.

Good to hear from you, Cory!
And waiting to here the update.

Re Braces: I had them for about 3 of 4 years in your pre-history, when I was a kid. Sometimes the changes hurt a bit - but all in all, nothing to worry about.

Cory,

Glad you still keep in contact

I still wonder if selling your machines was the best thing to do but whatever you try, keep us in the loop.

Cheers

Hey, hey, Cory! Good to see you keeping the updates going and still planning to go for the MMA surgery.

What a workload you have in college! I admire you and College Girl so much for making it through your courses whiile fighting OSA. You two have had to fight a sleep deprivation battle way beyond the "normal" sleep deprivation of college students.

Best of luck and do keep letting us know how it's going!

I did have GA, along with the other procedures. I actually had nothing done w/ my Uvula, but rather a "modified" UP3 where they make an incision in the palate. After the palate heals and scars, the uvula is pulled up .

Oh, yes. The busy school schedule, aka the schedule from hell. 21 hours of classes, and 20 hrs workstudy. We all can't live the perfect life in Spain!

Well, we'll see about CPAP #3 depending on how the PSG comes back. Isn't 3rd time a charm?

Graduating in two months!! Yippee! Grad presents are gladly accepted, and tax deductable! But really, the thought of completing a major goal that has been over my head is the biggest reason I persevere. My family/friends have no understanding just how difficult life is, but I'm the only 1 responcible for myself. Grad school starts in January, and I'm still waiting for acceptance. Also, still looking for a job as well. Anybody got any contacts in the Cincy area?

Laura, Laura, Laura... You along w/ a few others have kept me going (specifically all the people posting here!). Not being normal is definitely tough, but hopefully all ends well. I'm getting braces in the next few weeks, so hopefully the next year flies by. It does get depressing sometimes to see your life pass by and seem myself seem just a bystander. Ugh! But seriously, thanks for all you help/concern/advice. It's gladly appreciated.

Since I'm never on here, has anyone ever brought up the idea of a "reunion" event? It would rock to put faces to names.

Thanks for all the comments and awesome encouragement. Post as news happens... Anyone want on the mailing list?

Yes, someone's brought a "CPAP CRUISE" up, actually, but we're all apparently too broke from buying masks.

And I'm not IN Spain anymore, dork, I'm back at school in the states now.

AND I'm totally jealous you're graduating a semester before I am. How is THAT fair?!?!

And you can add me to your mailing list, if you want. But only if I get pics of you with braces.

And congrats on the grad school thing. You'll be accepted, don't worry. What are you going to be studying?

And...I'm out of ands. Take care, and don't be such a stranger.
