Need suggestions for a comfortable chin strap.

My mouth tends to fall open when I sleep. I ordered the deluxe style chinstrap(https://www.cpap.com/productpage/deluxe ... hleak.html) from cpap.com a few months ago but it feels itchy and disturbs my sleep. Anyone have comfortable chinstraps to recommend?

I have never used that chin strap but I have seen and felt one...it was itchy and I can certainly see where someone wouldn't be happy with it on their skin. It's big and bulky.

Chin straps and comfortable don't really go together.

I am sorry but I never really used a chin strap. Back when I was battling mouth opening the chin straps I tried were more along the homemade lines and they annoyed me so much that I elected to tape my mouth instead. It disturbed my sleep less than chin straps did. I quit taping after about 3 months..my mouth learned to stay shut for the most part.

Now forum member Jay Aitchsee did post something that he found and used in a little different manner that worked out very well for him.

the images are broken but it's a scunci and he wears it over his head and mouth.
We need him to move the images so we can see them again.

Otherwise I will let chin strap users chime in with the ones they like.
I do know the Ruby chin strip is well liked and I have felt one of those also and it wasn't nearly as annoying as the one you got.

Someone recently posted a suggestion to try a cervical collar instead of a chin strap to hold the chin up and mouth closed. Tried one for the first time last night and it worked great! Thanks to whoever it was for that suggestion. No dry mouth in the morning and virtually no apnea events. You might want to give it a try. It sure worked for me and I did not find it uncomfortable to wear for sleeping on back or sides. The foam cervical collar is cheap and widely available. I have tried several chin straps and none of them worked very well.

I also dug out a neck support (cervical collar-ish) that I bought through SkyMall ages ago. It works great keeping my jaw up and my mouth closed. I found chin straps pulled my jaw backward instead of straight up which seemed counterproductive to opening my airway - plus messing up tooth alignment!

I recommend it. I don't find it itchy. I put some fleece mask strap covers on it though, to minimize marks on my face. I am not sure it would be good for my spine for me to attempt to sleep in a cervical collar.

I use one called the Halo Chin Strap. Very minimal and comfortable.

That is the chinstrap I have been using for many years - except I use the "Respironics" brand & not the Generic brand in your link.
Much better quality when viewed side by side.
Because it is a better quality, it holds its elasticity much longer.

It does not make me itch & it is not uncomfortable to me.

A soft foam cervical collar has done the trick for a few here.
I agree with Pugsy---chin straps are not comfortable!
In my case, agony was the operative word.

I tried 2-3 chinstraps and settled on this https://www.cpap.com/productpage/premiu ... hleak.html. I have both the generic brand and the Respironics of the same design and latter is better in my opinion. The main feature I like about this design is that the velcro loop/strap that goes around the back of your head holds the chinstrap in place. My skin isn't that sensitive but have to admit that chinstraps while may solve the issue at hand can feel annoying at times. For me it is not too comfortable but gets the job done and I was fine with that.

now, i'm here to testify that jay's scunci bands trick is the real deal. it helped me tremendously. in fact, he advised i get ride of my ruby chinstrap. since that time, my sleep as been more comfortable and my ahi has gone down.

mind you, i'm a belt and suspenders type. so i use his method combined with a soft cervical collar.(my lips are absolutely DETERMINED to part when i sleep!)

i make a slight modification to jay's scunci band trick to accommodate the shape of my skull and i use a bit of kleenex under the bands to help keep my lips dry.

other than that, it's basically his deal and i can't recommend highly enough.

I am a three year user of the ResMed 9. Always fill the tank and set the humidity on a high setting. I wear the RM F10 full face mask. With all of that I still get really dry mouth about twice a week. So, I thought I would try a chin strap to keep the mouth closed. I have read the members opinions on this product (Yes Pugsy, especially yours ) and I can agree that totally comfortable it ain't. Maybe, I thought, it was like the first time we put on our CPAP masks and moaned and swore "this will not work for me"...took a while but it does take time to adjust to that Alien mask on your face.

OK...I started out wearing my Resperonics chinner around the house yesterday afternoon for a few hours. Yes, it felt weird but after a few hours I noticed it less and less. Sleep was OK and no dry mouth. Today, same thing. Few hours during the day and it felt OK. I think that is the secret. Don't try your new strap the first time when you go to bed. Get really comfortable with it if you can spare the hour or two during the day.

I will suffer the inconvenience of this to avoid the dreaded dry mouth. See if this might work for you
